BoG 02 - Blizkrieg

150BC(0) Grimjack enters the throneroom.
Hmm, We have construction in 39 with Science at 70%. This is inefficient. Better to have science at min and
use money to buy from the AIs if we are not better at researching. On the Other Hand, perhaps Science will
go a little faster when we get out of Anarchy :)
Teach me to shoot my pen before I am through thinking. Change a few clows to Taxmen, to save a few bucks.
Maximize cities for food, as that is not wasted in Anarchy. ( Only two needed adjusting. )

IBT: Nada

130BC Readjust Leipzig for no growth, as we would have serious happiness problems in that city with
the single luxury our island has provided for us. It will stay size 6 until further notice.

I get Currency, World map, 110 gc and a worker from Joan for Monarchy. We get Dyes, worker WOrld Map and 60 gold from

Catherine. Are up Currency on Catherine, and down Construction on Joan. Since we are in Anarchy, I suspect we have not used

any beakers for research. Set research to Republic. We would want this asap.

IBT: Russians are slow at retreating from our lands.

110BC: Move a couple of workers. Real exciting turn ;)

IBT: King Grimjack enters the throneroom. Go over all cities and adjust

90BC (3) I will let Berlin Grow in order for it to be able to reach 10 spt. We will not need many more settlers from that

city. Lots of cities are really easy to get 8 or 9 ShieldsPerTurn. Best I can think of is to let them grow beyond size 6.

Will see if we can trade some luxes from the other inhabitants of this island.

IBT: Nada

70BC(4): Have to go 10 % lux tax to support Size 7 cities.

IBT: Russians statr Hanging gardens.

50BC(5): Great deforestation around Heidelberg is started to speed up Forbidden Palace.

IBT: French wants some Hanging Gardens also. Beats me why they would want gardens around their execution squares.

30BC(6): WOrkers do their stuff.

IBT: Nada

10BC(7): Workers again.

IBT: See a french galley sailing past on our western coast. Leipzig Temple->Marketplace, Konigsberg Spear->Spear, Bremen

Harbour->Galley. Russians bought Construction and started Great Wall.

10AD(8) Got trade road to Joanie, but she wont trade her gems to us at any price. :(. Sell her incense any way, as a

reminder of why she should not go to war against us. Russia doesn't have any money, nor is She as large a threat. She gets

no dyes.

IBT: Frankfurt Granary->Harbour. Nurenberg Harbour ->Granary

30AD(9) First deforestation reveals a bonus grass :) Hamburg gets a taxman, since I will not raise lux taxes to 30% for a

single city. I put Hamburg on Settler duty. Nede to put something on those Galleys we are building, in case we find a small

island somewhere.

IBT: Konigsberg Spear->Spear

50AD(10): Snore

IBT: Bonn at size two goes into disorder. Chartres at border between France and Russia completes Great wall.

70AD(11): Can support size 8 cities right now. Keep an eye out for the lux deal, as those cities will go into disarray

without the lux.

IBT: Berlin Marketplace->Horse. ( Think we might need a few horse as deterrents. )

90AD(12) See that Berlin is able to get to size 9 with current luxes. At this size we might net ourselves 15 spt. Joanie

still wont trade us gems. Think she will part with her gems as well as construction when we get Republic in four.

IBT: oops, french starts to build SUnTzu. HOpe it wasn't republic that she netted.

110AD(13) Still only see construction on available techs. She may be way ahead of us. At size 8 I slow down growth in

Leipzig somewhat.

IBT: Woops, built a regular spear in Koln. Konigsberg continues to pump spears. Goal is to have three mps in every city.
WIll probably have to sneak in some infra soon though.

130AD(14) Berlis adjusted to 15 spt and slower growth. Hamburg, Settler->Settler.
IBT: Nada

150AD(15) Deforestation reveals another Bonus grass. :). And a regular grass in another spot. Adjust Science Slider.
IBT: Get Republic. I do not revolt, as I would want to adjust cities.

170AD(16) We get gems, construction, world map, 4 gpt and Joanies treasury for republic. This will push us into next age and

get us a free tech, so deal joanie. Our free tech is MOnotheism. Discover Joanie already has this, and Feudalism besides.
She wont part with Feudalism at any price. So I pauper ourselves with the Russians for Feudalism. Set Berlin to Cathedral.

IBT: Nada

190AD(17): I think long and hard about revolting into Republic. In the end, I will leave it up to next leader. I think we

would get serious happiness problems, as we now use three mps in several cities. I am also not certain what happens with our

11 gpt deal with Russia. Perhaps I should have revolted into Republic instead of trading for Feudalism.

IBT: zzzz

210AD(18): Quiet

IBT: zzzzz

230AD(19) Start to move my galleys. No big hope up, but we need to find the other continent. If we can hold contacts, it

would be as good as a free Great Library. I negotiate a RoP with Russia, so our Galleys can go exploring.

IBT: Hamburg Worker->WOrker. Brandenburg settler->Library. ( FP soon finished, time to start Infra. Settler is supposed to

enter western galley. )

250AD(20) Micro some cities so that happiness keeps up with growth.

Save ought to be at http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/BoG2_250AD.zip

Sorry, the shields from chopping forests are wasted on wonders, small or great.
Did you notice I change all the city names towards the German spelling?

Whoa that was a good turn:goodjob:
0-ZZZ
1-Workers
2-same
3-same
4-same
5-Suicide Galley sent (the one with horseman and settler)
6-Zulus found:eek:
7-That galley lost:(, I suggest that we rename our first Battleship to "Brave Galley", it was a national hero;)
8-RoP with France
9-Suicide galley 2
10-Found Babylonians and Aztecs(not with same galley)
Then turn 10's tradings-
Babs- Persians and TM for WM and 63 gold
Persians- Romans, TM, 7 gold for WM
Romans- WM, 4 gold for WM
Aztecs- WM and 236 gold for CURRENCY

So I'd say that's best 10 turns by me for ages, I have never played that well!:D

Sorry I changed them back but wouldn't the names be more like Köln not Ko/ln (how do you do that mark with finnish keyboard????:) )

Woops, Sorry for wasting those three forests and lworker turns around Forbidden Palace. :(

Good solid turn Ville. Lets hope we can keep contacts for ourselves for a while, to help our research.

Grimjack

Got it.
And...
GREAT TURN VILLE!!!
ps: I dont have ö on my keyboard, but it's technically the same as ø. Both are pronounced "uh" in their native laguages. And before I go totally OT, Got it. Again.

Erik Mesoy is once again brought to the throne of the Gnomes of Germany.

350 AD(0): We have lost the culture battle at Munich! Courthouse changed to temple and hurried.
We severely lack workers. I grab 2 that were raoding a useless mountain and send them off to mine plains around Berlin.
Heidelberg has 3 happy, 3 unhappy, so I lower the food to get FP one turn earlier.
Several cities are producing military without barracks. Regualr spears are one thing, but regular pikes... I can't do anything about it.
We have done a *great* job on landgrab. We have as much territory as Russia and France combined.
France is up Theology on us, Persia is up Chivalry. I push sci up to get Theo 2 turns earlier.

360 AD (1): Leipzig Cathedral > Barracks. Munich Temple > Cathedral. Hannover Worker > Worker. We lose a galley to the west of Rheims. Notice Munich is not growing. Rectify this. STuttgart changed from Pike to Harbor. Heidel-
LOL. Because I fiddled with the city names on my turn, the FP is about to complete in HeidelbErg, while a worker is being built in HeidelbUrg.

370 AD (2) Heidelberg FP > Market. Heidelburg worker > barracks. Worker movement.

380 AD (3) Leipzig Barracks > Pike. Konigsberg Courthouse > Cathedral. Frankfurt Marketplace > Temple. Dortmund harbor > Library. The Romans begin Sun Tzu.
I realize we have a trade route with Persia. Don't ask me how. I sell them Incense for Theology, 10 gold and 2 gpt. Then I call up the Zulu and sell them Theo for Chivalry. Now that we and France have Chivalry, Russia will get it from the GL, so I sell it. We now are researching Education, due in 16.
Loads of worker MM.

390 AD (4) Workers again.

400 AD (5) Hannover worker > worker. Brandenburg library > barracks. More worker movement.

410 AD (6) We lose our Gems! France want too high a price for them (Chivalry, Incest, Contact with 1 and 260 gold). I turn lux slider up instead. Losing 12 gpt is preferable. Edu in 11.

420 AD (7) Bremen something Z Marketplace.

430 AD (8) Leipzig pike > pike. Brandenbrug barracks > pike.

440 AD (9) Nurnberg Temple > Courthouse. Worker movement, nearly done with it.

450 AD (10) Leipzig pike > pike. Hannover worker > harbor.

Summary: France is up Education on us, but down Chivalry. She does not have contact with the Aztecs yet, but there is a safe route there. Chivalry and that Contact can easily get us Education or Gems, or both for Chivalry, Contact with Aztecs, Incense and 148 gold. Then we should sell Education to Russia, since they have the GL. Then we can sell Education to Persia for their Silks.
I would promote Sistine over Sun Tzu. The next leader can switch them, but I consider 3 extra happy faces, or 3 gpt/city to be worth more than a free barracks+1 gpt/city.
Sverdlovsk is ahead of Munich by a bleeping 1 culture. In 6 turns, the library we have there will get the 1K years bonus. If it doesnt get ahead then, rush the cathedral. Maybe buy horses from Russia first, to destroy their rep.

bog2again.GIF
is our country, and this is our throne.

I see it and will try to play later tonight.

Sistine is two happy faces in every city, right ?

As to Barracks, we have no need for them until we get Infantry. Enough to have them in our one or two troop-producing cities. Main reason would be denial to AI.
Will see if we can beeline to Economics for Smith's. I do not think we have a shot at Bachs, considering how highly AIs value that wonder.

as to Horses, wouldn't AI refuse to sell their only horses ? Otherwise, a nice and evil plan :)

Grimjack

Sistine doubles the effect of cathedrals, meaning 3 happy faces.
If we change Sun Tzu's to a prebuild for Bachs, we might very well get it. At the very least, sell MT to those on our continent and declare war on the others. Then someone on our continent will build it.

Quiet builders turn with a bit of bad timing. Missed killing the cascade with four turns. ( We have Sistines in four turns. )
We have Monopoly on Music Theory, and 17 turns left on a Palace Prebuild. I forgot to check if Bachs were as expensive as Palace, so we might have less.
Happiness should not be a big problem, so we might want to merge in a few workers in our big producing cities.

Here is report.

450AD(0) Everyone is building Sistine, four nations are building SunTzu.
I trade France Chivalry/Incense and 100 gold for Education. I do this with the
aim of nabbing Music Theory and Bachs Cathedral with our Sun Tzu prebuild.
Shaka gives me world map, 15 gpt and 60 gold for Education. Persia is probably reserahcing it,
as he wont pay nearly as much. Only 5 gpt with teh 60 gold. Seeing this, I decide to trade.
First to Shaka, then Persia.

After this, I set research to Music Theory in 12. I really would have liked to revolt into Republic, but I fear we may miss out on the wonder cascade then. It is hairy enough as it is.

460AD(1) We need workers to pump into our wonder cities. I will skim off workers out of our
other cites as they complete current projects.
Notice ENgineering is around. Will stay cool for a short while. Hopefully Music Theory traded
the turn before Bach is completed will get us to parity.

470AD(2) Lots of WOrker movement.
480AD(3) More workers
IBT: Germans start Sistine.
490(4) Worker movements. I stop producing PIkemen in our large city. WIll build university and
courthouse instead. ( Even one shield saved from corruption would make it pay for itself. )
500(5) Worker movement. Funny this :)
510AD (6) Contact between the continents could come any time. Just waiting for something
worthwhile to crop out of the AIs research machines before punting the trades. It is a gambit
though.
520Ad(7) Another turn of quiet growth.
IBT With one turn left on our Music Theory, Lyons completes Sun Tzu. WIll have to juggle not to lose our prebuilds now.
Munich outcultures Russians, so we get back our horse :)

530AD(8) Konigsberg changed to Palace, and Berlin to Sistine. Hopefully We can kill the cascade with Sistine
due in 6, and then switch Konigsberg to Bachs after cascade is dead.
IBT: Music Theory comes in. I set sights on Banking with teh goal of getting Adam Smiths sometimes in the future.

540AD(9) Music Theory is worth a LOT to teh AIs, but I would like to kill the cascade with Sistines first, Ensuring we get Bachs as well. trade 18 gpt to French for Gems, better than payign 22 gpt for 10 % lux tax.
Konigsberg is at size 11. If we can get it to Size 12, we might shave a turn off of Bachs. We will
need to increase lux tax for this though. Not sure we want to pay 22 gpt for one turn shave.

IBT: Persians starting to build Copernicus. Time to trade contacts, since they will come with AIs being able to traverse the oceans.

550AD(10) Contact with Russians and French +10 gold per turn to Hammurabi for ENgineering.
( He looked weakest of those on that continent, so I might as well feed him. )
Engineering and Contacts to France for Astronomy and 15 gold. 28 gpt and 50 gold for Astronomy from Shaka of the Zulus.
We get Furs and 14 gold from Rome for Astronomy. We get Wines for Astronomy from Hammurabi.

I have held out on trading Contacts to Aztecs. They may as well be backwards. They have no money, nor techs.
I have also not traded Music Theory. Now that Astronomy is around, Cascade would not be dead, and we would
probably miss Bach. If we keep it, there is a slim chance we still might wrest it from the grip of the AIs.

Right, I got it. Drat on losing Sistine. It wasn't even on our continent.
How about building 10 knights and invading Persia just for Sistine?

How about invading Aztecs, they're very backwards and are in a separate continent

That would be very hard to classify as border war, wouldn't it ?

But if they have some nice coastal resources, that would be fine :)

Raze a couple of cities on a coast for some lux or two, then make peace for some tech or two.
As long as we do not go for mtheir cores, I would say that it was a border war.
Grimjack

Bad luck on Sistine. Missed by two turns. HOlding thumbs for Leos, as that would be very nice for mass upgrades of INfantry and Artillery.

As to Sistines, we got Bachs, and if we get enough luxes, we can do without Sistines.

the war against the aztechs would be a border, as long as you are pushing for luxes or resources ect...

BoG 2, the fifth reign of Erik Mesoy.
Preturn: Once again, cities are building military without a barracks. Hannover switched.
Upgrade 9 spearmen for 180 gold. Shuffle another 9 to upgrade cities.
Turn 1: Koln Aqueduct > harbor. I cut one turn off Leo's with a temporary food shortage. Workers moved.
Turn 2: Workers moved again!
ZUlu want a map trade.
Turn 3: Nurnberg courthouse > aqueduct. The babs begin Magellans. They are up Gunpowder and Nav on us. So is France. France wants 620 gold and Incense for Navigation. I haggle to 555 gold.
Turn 4: Heidelberg granary > Univ. Brandenburg is our best coastal city, I set it to Magellans. Due in 21.
Turn 5: Bremen aqueduct > courthouse. Stuttgart granary > market. Palace expanded. To avoid more confusion, our FP city Heidelberg is renamed Palassberg.
Turn 6: Leonardo's Workshop completes in Konigsberg. I start a university there. Koln harbor > market. I establish embassies. Banking is now 1 turn anyway. so I buy it from Persia for 11 gold. I notice that Persia has begun to invade Zululand. 4 banks started.
Turn 7: Worker movement. Embassy built in Rome. They have the Heroic Epic! I notice we lost the horse at Munchen again.
Interturn: The romans will sell us Printing Press for Banking! Yay!
Turn 8: Frankfurt courthouse > bank.
Turn 9: I hurry the cathedral in Munchen.
France tries to cancel our Gems deal. OK, but I then buy Gunpowder from them for 31 gpt (we had 109.) I notice no riots. But when wines and furs run out, too...
Turn 10: I buy Wines from Babylon for Saltpeter and Incense. Then I buy Roman Furs for Iron. We are now researching Democracy.
Turn 11: Our ivory runs out. I buy it from the Aztecs for some old tech. I merge some surplus workers into Brandenburg. It grows to size 11, and Magellans is now due in 10.
Turn 12: Hamburg market > univ. I hook up a third Saltpeter. We have a fourth, but it is not hooked up in case of disconnect. BTW: The russians have no saltpeter. While trying to sell Incense to France, I see they are up Chemistry on us.
Turn 13: Berlin Bank > Colosseum. Konigsberg Bank > Cathedral.
Turn 14: Leipzig Bank > Palace prebuild. Heidelburg market > aqueduct.
Turn 15: Palassberg Bank > Univ. Bremen courthouse > univ. BLEEP! F3: Our military is WEAK compared to france!
Turn 16: Sold Incense to Russia. Koln market > bank.
Turn 17: Persian rampaging forces destroy the Zulu. Salzburg aqueduct > courthouse.
Turn 18: Munchen Univ > market. Nurnberg aqueduct > market.
Turn 19: Berlin colosseum > wealth.
Turn 20: Konigsberg cathedral > univ. Hannover aqueduct > market. Magellan's due in 1 turn.

We are behind on tech. Little france is out-researching us, we have lost the culture battle at Munchen, etc, etc. We might get democracy first, though.

Great set of turns Erik.
Leo's will surely come in handy when we upgrade all our defenders to infantry.

I will try to play tonight.

Got It

850AD(0) Micromanage Brandenburg for Magellans in one and growth in one.

IBT: Magellans completes. Democracy drops to one turn. :( ( No brokerage probably.

Persia, Rome, France and Russia has Democracy.

860AD(1) I set Frankfurt on shortage food, but Bank in one instead of two.
I buy Democracy from France for 10 gold. I get Chemistry, WOrld map and 10 gold from
Babylon for this tech.
Some gpt deal has expired, as we now have 127 gpt. I will not revolt this turn, as I
would like to see bank and univercity finished in two core cities.

IBT: People want to see Wall Street.

870AD(2) We have 131 gpt as I revolt into Democracy. Russia and France has Physics, but
they want our left arm as price. ( Russia wants Saltpeter, treasury and 55 gpt. ) When
we are in Democracy, we will research ourselves. I know war weariness can be troublesome
in Democracy, but I expect us to blitz away entire nations in single turns, or at most two turns,
and then war weariness would not be expensive. Also, I would like to try some warfare in a government
other than Republic. Republic works. It works very well :)
We get an average 5 turn anarchy.
Brandenburg without a Marketplace is the only one that doesn't like the situation. With two clowns,
it just barely doesn't starve, however it would need three clowns. I will let them cycle through
anarchy and disorder. NO starvation during disorder. Ack, we are food poor. WIll see if I can manage without
starvation, but I doubt it in our desert cities.

IBT: zzz

880AD(3) Since we are running 30 gpt deficit, I sell incense to Joanie for 170 gold and Map. This will let us
prevent bankruptcy during anarchy.

890AD Sell around our world map for some loose change.

900AD zznore

IBT: We get outcultured by Russia on our eastern coast also. Persians start Newtons

910AD(6) Worker move

IBT: We are now a democracy. Russians also start Newtons.

920AD(7) Our Income now is 284 gpt. More than twice that of MOnarchy. Hmm. I set research to Economics, due in five.
I aim to get Smiths. Much adjustment of production happens.

930AD(8) Metallurgy is known now, but as we are doing research, no deal is possible.
940AD(9)
IBT: French city of Rheims completes Newtons. This is good as it kills the cascade, letting us deal with our Economics.
Since we have prebuilds going in 20 spt cities, we ought to be able to nab Smiths easily.

950AD(10) The musket in Palassburg is mostly so that the Ais has a unit to fear. We should also build a Knight somewhere.

Use Economics to get tech parity and money, so we can rush some infra. Also, let money build up to at least 1000 gold by the
time we get to Wall Street. Also switch either Palace or Current Wall Street to Adam Smiths. Babylon is modern, so
this may get hairy. I have started to build Catapults. Idea is that they should in time become mighty artillery pieces.

Ville you are up next. Please note that we are researching at a huge deficit, and we will have a wines deal expiring between turns. I do not know if we really need the wines, but I suspect we do. Make sure you will have gold enough to cover our deficit after dealing with Hammurabi.
