BoG 3 - Deity Minus

Well, im back from vacation (Colorado was awesome) but I don't know whether my comp is fixed yet. Ill find out tomorow when the place is open. Right now im using an old laptop but I dont wanna install Civ and go through all that. Ill let yall know tomorow if i have my comp back. Untill then ill keep a close eye on this. Good luck all.

We are a little behind in tech, have a smallish military but do have a huge empire. Not sure exactly where to go with things from here so built some knights, infrastructure and traded some tech:

Traded Iroqois gpt for Education and get Printing Press from the Egyptians for it. Don't want to get too far behind or we'll be in real trouble. No one has got any further. Tried for Music Theory on the slim chance we might get it... havn't got enough the universities we will need for any serious research.

Abu Bakar called up the peace treaty for renewal - havn't seen that before?

Traded India 39gpt, gems and ivory + cash for Astronomy and furs. Could have got 29gpt without furs, but we can get an extra 15gpt sacking clowns. Unfortunately this will only make india stronger. With our newfound ability to trade overseas I give the Celts Iron for Gunpowder, 130 gold and 1gpt. We have 2 saltpeter sources, neither hooked up. Seems the Arabs and Egyptians lack it and the Iroqois don't have any hooked up... this could be good. We are at tech parity apart from Music Theory :( which quite a few of them developed on the last turn. Up Astronomy to Rome who would pay 8gpt for it.

Unfortunately the Romans and Egyptians finally made peace. Think we should strike at Egypt sometime soon, although they are looking meaner now - have a lot of longbows running around. We won't need too big a force, as they still only have spears as defense... ought to make an alliance with the romans if we do this... Thebes, with the Pyramids is a good target.

We will probably want to change our research - not sure to what.

We should have a vote on what victory condition we are aiming at... I'd be quite interested in Conquest/Domination as most of my games seem to be going rather peacefully lately... Anyone else have any thoughts?

Have fun!

The save.

Tonsoffun, good to hear you're back - Hope your comupter is feeling better.

I see it, and I'll download it tonight after work. I'm up in two (at least I think I am) so I might not get to this tomorrow, but I'll try to post tonight.

I also play very peaceful games so I vote for a conquest or domination victory. Let's focus on removing Egypt from our continent next. If the tech pace starts to get a way, we can always take out that Celtic city in the far north for a discount.

Turn 0 – 310 A.D. Checking things over. We have no FP yet? We are totally at peace, with everyone. Two turns left on an ivory deal with Cleo. On TriviAl’s recommendation, I change research to Chemistry, as it is the one least likely that the AI will research soon. The AI is only up Music Theory right now, so we’re ok. We have several Saltpeter in our territory, but none hooked up. The Egyptians have no SP and no Iron – their time has come. We also need some more workers methinks.

BT – India completes Bach! I’ve never seen such a strong India! Celts get Copernicus in the cascade!

Turn 1 – 320 A.D. There is a Settler in Antalya, I assume to fill in conquered Egyptian lands? Iroquois grab a monopoly on Chemistry.

Turn 2 – 340 A.D. Just waiting until the right time to attack.

BT – The Iros declare war on the Indians. That should slow those two major powers up some. I’m saving some cahs to rush units where we need them during our war. SP hooked up. Upgrade some pikes.

Turn 3 – 350 A.D. As I said, upgrade some pikes. Almost ready to attack.

Turn 4 – 360 A.D. Declare war against the Egyptians. Give the Romans Ivory to sign them up. Buy Chemistry for Ivory, Horses, and Gems, from the Iros. Resell it to the Romans for Banking and 75 gold. Basically two free techs, as we had excess horses, ivory and gems. Tech Parity.

BT – The Egyptians attack the Romans, not us. The Romans will be a big help, as they have tons of MI’s up there left over from some other war.

Turn 5 – 370 A.D. 3 civs pull in Navigation. Quite a tech pace we’ve got here! I spend the first turn picking off all the Egyptian longbows – I kill 8 bows and 2 spears, without losing a single unit. Hopefully the Egyptians don’t have too many bows left to counterattack.

BT – they have a few, and we lose a few knights in the counterattack. Romans enter Egyptian territory with a large stack. The Roman city of Lisht flips to us!!

Turn 6 – 380 A.D. - Elphantine falls! I decide to raze it and use the settler we have waiting to replace it, so I don’t get bogged down fighting resistance this early. I have to rush a musket in the East to prevent the fall of Mugla from a sneaky attack. I am able to pick off the remaining longbows that I can see, but I’m still open for a counterattack.

BT – Man the Egyptians still have lots of longbows! Losing a lot of knights to counterattacks.

Turn 7 – 390 A.D. I have to pull back and regroup. I’ve lost over half our Knights to Egyptian counterattack. They sure have a lot! I’m going to pull back and let the Romans other them a bit.

BT – This is bad – my fortified musket behind walls in Muglia dies. Fortunately the other hold on.

Turn 8 – 400 A.D. I have to pull back the Settler too. Sorry about this guys – I had no idea the Egyptians would be so tough. No major losses yet, other than units, though. Iros are now up Navigation AND Physics! Holy tech pace, batman!

BT – War Weariness hits 20% That’s ALL I need! Riots everywhere.

Turn 9 – 410 A.D. Luxes to 20% fixes most rioting problems. The Romans capture Alexandria! That should distract the Egyptians. We just need to make sure we get Thebes, not them! We have only seven Knights. Geez.

Turn 10 – 420 A.D. I think it’s safe to move the settler out again.

NOTES TO NEXT PLAYER –

There is a 2 for 1 available between Physics and Navigation, and possibly Democracy (The Indians have it). If you want to do this it’s still available this turn. There is a mini-SoD assembled with our remaining Knights – you may be able to take Memphis with it. Good Luck!

Looks like I'm up. Good timing, too. I'm about to lose my office to my mother-in-law for the rest of the week. Should be able to play/post by noon tomorrow.

Wow! That sounds like it's hotting up a fair bit! Only saw a few of those longbows on my turn, guess they were hiding them behind the lines....

Good news on the trading front... just hope it gets to Mil Trad soon...

It has been a while since I last played so I had to take some time to look around.

CITIES: Adana to market...needs happiness from 4 lux multiplied with marketplace
Ankara, Fustat to courthouse...too much corruption
Mulga to market...barracks might be better but I do not think we will need it to take Egypt's tundra cities
Lisht to Library...faster for culture
Bolu to market...no need for a regular musket in 20 turns
Bingol to walls...border with Rome
Uskudar to market...don’t need that musket in 7
Aydin to aqueduct...will time with growth to 7

Military: Find 2 warriors in Konya...sent to Bolu & Uskudar for paper defenses
Upgrade 2 warriors in Ankara to direct roman forces to the front.
Warriors in Istanbul & Izmit head to Northern front for future MP duty

IBT India asks for help against Iroquois...I'll pass

430AD Bukhara library-->walls Izmit knight-->cathedral because it needs happiness...3 more knights-->knights
Kill spear that had marched past Mugla
Build Zonguldak 1 square East of Ruins...still on river but brings in mined cow in first ring
Move 6 knights to Memphis door, guarded by reg spear on top

440AD Kill first spear in Pithom with no damage
attack Memphis...1st Vet does 1 hp of damage and dies, 1st Elite wins with 1hp left, 2nd Vet kill longbow outside of city with no damage, 3rd vet wins with 1hp of damage, 2nd Elite beats 2hp reg spear to take city....Keep it because we are culturally stronger and it will put pressure on Roman towns. Start starvation diet.

450AD Konya aqueduct-->courthouse...another knight...road completed to Lisht...take Pithom with 2hp of damage and starts library...move on to Pi-Ramesses & Edfu

460AD Urfa market-->courthouse...move knights to forest around Pi-Ram & Elite wins losing hp
to catapult...get a promotion near Edfu

470AD missed growth and Izmit riots...3 vets lose a total of 1hp and take Pi-Ramesses & a
catapult...loose 2hp as vet captures Edfu...kill another wandering spear near
Mulga...Rush library in Pithom for 152g and in Zonguldak for 144g

480AD Adana market-->granary to time with growth...2 more knights and libraries -->courthouses
capture a worker near Abydos but prevents me from capturing city this turn...kill 3rd wandering spear near Iznit and promote to Elite

490 AD Kafa temple-->granary...Take Abydos

500AD Erdine starts courthouse....Salonika market--> granary...buy library in Abydos for 156g...capture 2 workers in Buto

510AD buy library in Edfu for 144g...in Buto for 156...capture another catapult in Avaris

IBT Rome asks us to remove the one knight near el-Amarna while most of its army is in our
Territory…Celts join battle against India...Arabs start Newton's

520AD Hiawatha and Gandhi are both industrial now...time to get some techs: Gems+Ivory+Salt+WM+110GPT to India for Furs+Spices+Physics+Metal+8g
Physics to Rome for Navigation+WM

IBT Arabs join the Indians and start Shake's...Rome takes Asyut

530AD start a market in Antalya...Bukhara walls-->barracks...capture 2 slaves and another
catapult in Byblos

540AD start Istanbul on Musket men...Uskudar market-->courthouse...Buy library in Memphis for 120g & Byblos for 156g

IBT Rome joins India against Celts

550AD Libraries to Courthouses...Adana--> musket...Kara court-->musket...Take Hieraconpolis
Rush library in Avaris for 156g

We are still are down Mag, ToG & Demo from the leaders and no one has Military Tradition yet. One more turn on deals with Hiawatha and Rome. Egypt is down to 2 cities. We need Rome to join us against the Arabs soon. That will get their troops out of our land fast. We should get ToG from the Iroquois when it is time to renew that deal next turn. After finishing off Egypt, take out the Celtic city and when peace is offered, get a discount on Mag from Brennus, boosting us to the next age.

A few more thoughts and the game

We should start our forbidden palace in old Egypt now. This will add some more pressure on the Roman cities.
We can hold off on producing knights now and switch over to muskets. We have enought to take the last two Egyptian cities and the Celtic town. What we need is muskets in our border towns and around the Roman colonies.

Bad News. Aparently the computer guys had never seen anything like that before and they think its probably a messed up operating system that was installed and so they sent it off to sony. It could be a while before I get it back so it looks like im stuck to watching for a while. Have fun everyone.

I have had a project cancelled at work, so I get to take next week off... My net connection will be a bit erratic until the 28th July, however I should be able to check at least every other day and will have plenty of time to play :)

Sorry about the short notice and I hope this does not cause too much inconvenience...

However, I've got the game now. Hopefully will play this evening and post tommorrow/sunday.

Right, I'm sorry about this. Got the save home and tried to load it, produced a 'Datal0' file error, whatever that means. If someone can sort it, then I can get back and have a look in a couple of days... but I think it might be easier to skip me.

I will not be able to check the save and replace if necessary until Midnight Central. Byt the way, has anyone heard from BoG lately?

I had no trouble loading the file I uploaded here. Can some one else grab the file and see if they have any problems.

I'll check it, but it'll be several hours before I get home. I'll edit this post once I check it.

Just to keep this game moving along, why don't you play Snaproll.

Ok I finished my turns. I'm just going to list the highlights:

Finished off Egyptians in the first 4 turns. Captured Thebes, which included the Pyramids! Also gained a leader, whiich I used to rush the Forbidden Palace in Memphis I think it was. Our gpt jumped from 118 to 186.

We were getting behind in tech, so I made several big trades to get Democracy, Theory of Gravity, Magnetism, and Metallurgy. This put us in the industrial ages, where we pulled Medicine as our free tech. Most of the other civs are also in the Industrial age, but no one has any techs there yet. We have a monoploy on Medicine - I suggest holding it to trade for Steam Power and Nationalism. Our reputation is still good.

I couldn't revlot to Democracy as the gpt payments involved in the tech deals were too steep.

Next player: We need lots more workers and infrastructure. We have the dominant position in terms of land area, but our research capability is still yucky. I worked mostly on universities, banks, markets and the like.

The are large Roman forces in our territory returning from the Celtic and Egyptian wars. Don't make them mad.
