Boldy Going Forward ‘Cos We Can’t Find Reverse - A Birth of the Federation Mini-AAR

Risan task force now on route to T'Ili Beta.

Could we get a full intel briefing on what ships we have assigned to what fleets?

You did your best, against impossible odds.

nodikus: that's going to take a while. I will get it done though.

Edit: The Magic Hobo: if you mean that genuinely, I will make it happen.

This better work. As a precaution, I think I'll be shifting around some former diplomacy funds to rushing warship construction. Just in case.

I never said it would work I just want to blow stuff up.:nuke:

When you put a psychopathic drunkard in charge of a fleet of warships this is what you get.:p

When I put a psychopathic drunkard in charge of a fleet of warships...

I know what I'm doing ;)

"Dammit Number One I thought you encrypted this channel?"
"Uhhhhhhhh, sorry sir."
"Ahem, what I meant to say was: All hail and glory be to our glorious KAAAAAAN, who recently had his entire body completely redesigned, and his realm. :worship:"

Councillor D.highland woke up the next morning to a memo from the President claiming that he was now the Head of Starfleet. Rubbing his eyes for a minute, he looked once more. This was, indeed, the President promoting him. Glancing at the time, he slapped his forehead, knowing he was late for work.

Arriving at his new position, he saw a very large view screen in his office outlaying the entire map and fleet updates. Coming to thought immediately was to play a large scale game of Battleship, but then he saw the large pile of folders on his desk.

Opening the first one, he saw another memo from the President asking for a suggestion for a hit. Taking one of the fancy pant pens from the desk, he began to write in response.

If their outposts aren't too powerful, I suggest two small strikes on the ones we can see. It will lower their sensory range, disallowing them to go very far into our territory. If all goes well we could starve off the Dominion fleet by raiding their planets and outposts if we can't attack it head-on.

( I think I'm gonna like this job! )

Incidentally, it turns out TheMagicHobo has been in command of the Constitution-class USS Magnificent for some time now, as the Majestic is still at Earth. Clerical error? Strangest place to wake up after a heavy night of drinking? Either way we're going to hush it up and carry on.

Shoot the HARVESTER VIRUS MUAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHH!

Is Earth in "the corner of the galaxy"? i.e. Is there a possibility of a fleet coming from behind us? If not, there is probably no harm in moving my home fleet to T'Lani or another place where we can respond more quickly to an emergency, without getting too far from Earth. Unless the citizens of Earth would feel unsafe!

( What you have to know is that this is BotF. A Husnock vessel or another wrapped present could spawn right beside Sol at any given turn. )

Boldy Going Forward ‘Cos We Can’t Find Reverse - A Birth of the Federation Mini-AAR

The days following the beginning of the war were filled with activity, as the Federation and Starfleet put itself onto a war footing. As it happened, there was little to do - a year preparing for a conflict meant most of the equipment was already available. All that was lacking were adequate troop transports to liberate opposing worlds from Dominion oppression.

For now, that suited Starfleet Command just fine. With the revelation of the massive Dominion fleet and outposts across the border, it was obvious that for now the war would purely be decided in the destruction of military assets. D.highland, newly promoted to Head of Starfleet, advocated gathering the fleet and hitting the Dominion outposts, eliminating the threat of Dominion attacks into Federation territory.

He had not reckoned on Captain The Magic Hobo. Without waiting for the fleet to gather, he struck at the first military target he could find. Ignoring the distinct smell of whisky on their commanders breath, his crew had decided to trustin his insubordination, and brought the fleet to strike the closest Dominion outpost.

The Earth Task Force attacks a Dominion outpost.

The structure was massive, with enough shielding, armour and firepower to rival the entire fleet. By chance, the two Dominion battle cruisers that was normally assigned to the station were away, presumably hunting down Captain Maniacal II’s Onizuka B as it conducted survey missions.

It was, then, an even fight, though the crews of the fleet were under no illusions that The Magic Hobo would have thrown them into combat, even if the enemy ships were there. They readied themselves for battle then as their leader screamed battle orders at them. They assumed they were battle orders, it sounded a lot like uncontrollable cackling with occasional explosion sounds.

The fleet opens fire.

The USS Magnificent fired the first shot of the war. At least it was assumed so, as eight other vessels also unloaded their torpedo launchers and phaser banks at the same time. The Dominion outpost hadn’t expected much else. Its shields were already up and weapon systems firing, their accuracy alarmingly good despite the spread of targets. The Gilinir and the T’Lorik, Andorian and T’Lani vessels respectively, were hit several times, their shields brought to half-strength. The outpost, on the other hand, was virtually unscathed. Starfleet training had only recently updated combat manoeuvres and targeting programs.

The Magic Hobo was hardly new to combat, however, and ordered the fleet to divide further in order to present less targets to the enemy. The shift in tactics worked - the Dominion were now forced to focus their fire on single targets if they wanted to cause significant damage to the Stafleet taskforce.

The Kumari fires while her sister-ship is destroyed.

The Andorian vessels took main blows, the Dominion quickly realising that for all their strength their shields were weak. The Gilnir, the Kumari and the Khorval were destroyed with all hands lost, their actions drawing the fire away from the rest of The Magic Hobo’s fleet. They bought enough time for their allies to bring down the outpost shields, and from there it was just a simple torpedo barrage to disable and destroy the enemy station.

The Battle of Inferna was a Federation victory. Four vessels had been destroyed, but it was a small price for the destruction of the Dominion’s forward outpost. Assuming Dominion warp technology was the equivalent of Starfleet’s, no enemy vessel could now enter Federation territory…

Wow, 4 ships lost against an outpost? It seems their outposts are much better than I expected.

It's really too bad you can't build minor faction ships.

However, it is good news that Federation territory is now much safer than it was the year before.

Wow, outposts where always virtually cannon fodder in vanilla. Sill, first blow to us.
