Bombardment issue

What kind of bombardment do you find the best?

I don't usually mod, but I'm considering this. Bombers really are pretty much worthless with the patches. This really makes no sense, historically. A bomber against an undefended city has a 90-something% success rate: the only thing that can go wrong is a faulty bomb. So why make it so impossible?

I know why they did it. Imagine having those same 50 artillery that you use now but change them to have 400% increase in attack rate. Do you realize how easy wars would get? With the current standings I can still take down a city with about 10-20 depending. If that was the case I would only need about half as much because success would be so much greater. It would ruin it to me to go back to 4. But I do think that somewhere in between would be perfect for the game. Maybe like 10 instead of 16.
 
Think about it. How easy would it be to kill 50,000 people or all the banks, libraries etc. in a city each with one bombing run? That is why Firaxis made it harder to hit the target in cities. Besides, the AI is really incompetent with bombers, the human player can just walk all over them.
 
I am not big on bombing cities - they tend to destroy the improvements that I would prefer they keep, or they destroy improvements like temples, which wont survive the transition anyway, or they get intercepted, or they fail. I like using bombers to destroy improvements and cut off cities from reinforcements, and to break down enemy forces in the field before finishing them off with land units. Cities I will hit with artillery and lumps of tanks.
 
Give them everything you've got - bomb everything!:D

I agree that bombers are better suited to bombing units and improvements, especially those with resources, but once that's done it's time to start hitting the cities! I'd far rather reduce the AI city size and defender HPs than worry about improvements. One of the first buildings hit is normally the barracks - no more vet troops. City improvements can be rebuilt with time or cash.

Naval bombardment, while hopeless against cities, seems to be most effective taking out improvements.
 
I bombard with everything possible, if it's beside the ocean then I'll throw in naval to, put I sofen up my target's alot with bombardment, I pumped up my artillery units alot with the editor, but I LOVE aerial bombarments though!

1 bombing run can destroy only 1 citizen or 1 building if succed, and think about it, a carrier can hold 4 bomber, but it mean much more, a real carrier hold hundred of planes. So a raid with 4 bomber mean something like 100-200 plane in reality.

In world war 2 , the ally did some bombing run of 1000 bomber over a german city, everything was destroy and burning.

So if a city doesnt have a few fighter to defend it, just to bad , it will be crush to ash.

With 4 on defense like i did in my mod, i need about 5 carrier full of bomber to crush 1 city in 2 turn.

But don't think just about air. I usually use artillery which there is little defense against. Those stats need to be that high or my 50 artillery will take down a city way too easy, easier than I already can. A city should not be destroyed instantly by bombardment. Its just not realistic. 90% of you attacks should not destroy something. Maybe in real life that works but in this game that would royally suck.
 
But this why i lower this defensive valu, i dont want to use 50 artillery or 50 bomber to do some damage. I realy dont like to have 40 bombing run fail on 50 try. Where is the fun ?

In PTW i tell you, air supperiority will be very strategic.

wrong no aircraft carier can carer 100 aircraft the most is 90 and if you noticed at the top of the city info its say population and its in the 10000 most times so he is right
 
I said 100- 200 so 90 is prety close to a 100, i guess.

But anyway guy, if you like to wake 50 artillery or 50 bomber and got 40 bombing run fail it is your choice, maybe you like the video animation, i dont care.

Me i just want to help those who find annoying to have 90 % bombing run fail. If you like that go ahead my friends, but if you dont like that, mod it back from 16 to 4 like it was in original version.

With 4, catapult is usefull, with 16 catapult is totaly useless, cannon too and bomber miss 90 % of the time.

I find very hard to beleive that some poeple like those actual defensive value against bombing, imagine, i am so happy my 50 bomber miss 45 time oh yea lets celebrate the mouse clicking festival.

Look into editor under general setting, you will see something like defense agisnt bombing, building and citizen, actualy it is 16 lower it bake to 4, you will have much more fun using artilery and bomber.
