Booga games diar..rhea

Ok, Dynamic, you are godly. :}
I've once invested tons of time to get this record, and you broke it completely!
Now I'll have to get to know this "rain forest" map to know why is it so good for you ;)
Pacal is my usual second choice after Peter, but perhaps it should have been my first.

I'm not thinking yet on buying civ5.. I'm satisfied with civ4 when I have the time and want to play it.
Just my update thoughts.
See ya, booga.

It wasn't my goal. I missed this thread and even didn't know about your race. I just played next (and possibly last) SC game.
About your mistake - for Duel map size (especially for low levels) you should choose the map type with max amount of land (enough land tiles) cities ASAP. My 12 cities (13th I gave up to Mansa) were not enough for fast space but it's limited by map size. Tiny and Small map size are much better even without huts.
Why rainforest? - It's best for State Property civic. I've played SC via Corporation and State Property and can't say what way is the best. But State Property way is independent from GP, I don't need early Pyramids and Hanging Gardens and less depend on Philo leaders.

I'll look at your game in the coming days..
If you are so eager for land, why not start on Terra? Does rainforest have more land??
And I never fancied state property, but we'll c ;)

You are right, Terra and Highlands offer bigger lands and you can see that many good games were played with them. But they have worse quality (less food and rivers) then Rainforest and my last games style requires was optimized for Rainforest. Of course it's not dogma.

rainforest is basically a jungle map, with TONS of food - lot's of rice and pigs, some corn. deer and cow and sheep are rare, as are wheat. Many maps have no seafood at all.

Clearing the jungle is a problem (serfdom is a valid option) and the fast worker is useful, but once it's clear... man, lots of good land...

Slavery is good, too - wood chopping is basically irrelevant.

Hi people.

I've learned how Dynamic plays and was deeply impressed :
The way to communism, correct use of slavery, timely positioning of cities, and especially his use of a special city with national epic, national park, and tons of forest preserve (which may be on jungle, what d'u know!)

I'm probably stupid for never seeing the correct use for forest preserve.

Well, it took some training and a month of time, but it was certainly worth it.
I beat Dynamic by 1 turn :
Submission number 21923, 2010-10-08 (few moments ago), 520 AD, 100553 points. :)

I did that with only 9 cities, and I would have built one or 2 more if the terrain was worth it.. so I think I can do even a bit better, but I'm currently satisfied on this spot ;)
Thank you Dynamic, for a whole different view on civ4 :)

Congrats boogaboo!
I also like Civ4 for high amount of possible ways to victory. We can learn it year by year. For now I'm disappointed by Civ5 so your challange could be very appositely. :)

After some analysis I can say that you made very good middle part of game and led over 10 turns to me. But final part wasn't so good and you lost at least 5 turns by non-optimal building of SS parts.
But in any case it will be hard and interesting for me to find the better strategy element to beat your result.

It looks like my last SS game style was optimized for higher amount of cities then are available on Duel Map. I also understood then Exp trait wasn't ideal for Marathon speed - hard to pop-rush Workers by 2 citizens...

Hi.. I thought you were off for civ5.. damn! ;)
I did that record with 9 cities, and I'm coming accustomed to 10.
I think the fact you had more cities must have affected that 10 turns closure - my science wasn't high enough.

And worker isn't 2 pop - waiting 1 or 2 turns makes it 1 pop :)

I just moved one level up, trying to beat myself.
But when u kick my record, I'll be back.. this can go on forever. :crazyeye:

You don't understand my problem. I want to rush Worker by 2 pop and use high overflow for other buildings. But with Exp trait and Forge city can't do it.

hmm.. if you build really bad for the first turn, you can still cut 2 pop IMHO.

Can you tell me (shortly) what's so bad in civ5? I saw the hex tiles are the (only) improvement, but I didn't really try it to see all the bad stuff (features/bugs).. what are they?

Exp+Forge=+50% for Worker so 90+50%=135/120 so no chances.

Civ5 isn't so flexible as Civ4. Just one mainstream in development. For now it also offers very poor info about game mechanics and contains huge amount of bugs.

Let me know when you beat me :)
I'll probably start trying to beat myself, since you are already on it ;)
I got a bit of a different approach to superconductors (I'll cut to it after electricity) and a bit more experience on this method now.

I just submitted a new chieftain number 1 using the same method:
entry 21990, 2010-10-15, 875 AD, 120277

I got metal casting in a hut early on, in a game I would have continued anyway :)

I can think of one player who would dispute the notion that a highlands map has worse quality. :mischief: You can find great rivers, tons of financial windmills and an endless supply of trees to chop at the end.

May be I'll try this next time...

Let me know when you beat me :)
It looks like you could start thinking about new try (if you haven't switched to Civ5). :)
I haven't finished my try yet, but if it will not crash it should be not later than 500AD (I'm at 70BC now). I understand that I'm too hurry with my post but I can't play now and will finish my game after several days only, so I just pop up this thread. :)

Hi, I just popped by!
I'm currently playing "dungeons and dragons online" for fun and to reduce my anxiety... ;)

You're a very good player, still I hope I won't be beaten :)
Interesting to me, are you doing this try on highlands, as Iggy suggested? I have never (fully) explored maps in Civ4, and that's my disadvantage, but I'll be happy to know where to start my tries :)

Happy new year! (If you are a Cristian ;) )
Booga.

I've finished in 460AD, but game still isn't checked.
I have played with the same map settings - Rainforest, Pacal. But next game I'll try on Highlands, may be I'll even select big map...
In this game I used food-rich Capital without Lux (Gems appeared close to 1AD but Global Warming destroyed my oldest Cottage) and Monarchy. All teches learned by myself. 11 good cities, Park and 1 weak city. Negative side was too weak Park city and very late National Park. It cost me about 2 GS and 5 turns...
