To add some flavour:

And the barb city in the center will be named King's Landing.

Of course you may change the city names which will be proposed when you found them.
But the ones who like them may even decide to name their units after these books: a knight named Jaime Lannister, or a spy named Varys certainly adds to the flavour (for those who read these books, or have seen the series)

As a fan of A Song of Ice and Fire, I like that idea a lot. ;-)

Also, I'd prefer a pitboss game as well, for the extra flexibility in turns.

I Love it!

Am I located in the North in this Game?

Would a 9th player named the Night's Watch be dumb? He'd have lots of Gold and units but no House(city) (requires complete kill to be checked to exist)
His existence would would be from gifts of units and Gold. He would not take a House for his own other than a zero growth starter city, they can/could/might Pledge their Loyalty and/or support to whom ever he chooses.

I got the Night's Watch from a Wiki search of House Stark other than that I only have minimal Knowlegde of GoT

There is no north in this game ...as the world wraps in every direction. :)

The nights watch .. Well in this game the guys in black are the bad guys (barb)

Yes
The turn order is removed and any player can play first when the turn advances even simultaneously

Though, as I understand, there are stipulations (and gentlemanly agreements?) about not double moving and maintaining a consistent turn order during war time, to keep things fair.

Sorry for the delay... I had a busy day today and gpcii has been busy all week. We have exchanged a few emails and made a final decision.

I will take Joao of Portugal and gpcii will have Alexander of Greece.

Also I would note that a pitboss game will not work for me. I looked into that for another game previously and based on the way I play (multiple locations at times, not always with direct access) there's no way I'd be able to guarantee a turn every 24 hours being able to connect directly to the IP address. It's either PBEM or you'll need to replace me with another vet. if so, that's fine and I will gladly step down, but I just wanted that fact to be out there.

HOUSE LANNISTER (gpcii)
So... I am an incestuous family that are rich and corrupt? As a leader I am a child born of incest who is a spoiled brat and a wimpy coward with a dark and evil heart? My hair may be blond, but c'mon...

Oh well, at least I am rich.

I would be interested in trying a Pitboss game as it does sound interesting. BUT, I think that we can do fine with playing this game as a PBEM. I'd hate to lose Nighthawk from the game.

@gpcii: a more fitting leader would be:
Tywin Lannister is a calculating, intelligent, politically astute, ruthless, and controlling man. Tywin Lannister dedicated his whole life and all his efforts into maintaining the Lannisters prestige, ensuring House Lannister was respected or at least feared. He is a proven battle commander and politician and has a very powerful presence combined with an unflinching gaze that can make lesser men swiftly turn away.
And you're rich too.. Actually that fits Alexander of Greece pretty well..

Here are the maps of the continents.

Remember: every continent has coal, copper, horses, oil and iron. Everyone has copper near his starting position.
In the center region are all really good things: stone, marble, wine, silk etc..

You don't see these at the maps yet.

* Furthermore everybody has got a castle, with a castle guard, one special resource, and all have the same special buildings in the castles.
* And every civ has a coastal start.
* There is a land connection to the center which is guarded by a player from another team. And you have three options to get past him: negotiate, conquer the castle OR invade by sea.
* All will have a starting city, warrior, worker and castle guard.

Now we are in step 3 of the START PROCEDURE:

1) Gpcii and Nighthawk tell us what civs they choose

2) I make the map available to all of you.

3) Then representatives from two other teams do the following:

3a) one make a random team order (e.g. 1,4,3,2) and sends this via pm to me
1. Gpcii (Alexander of Greece) / Nighthawk (Joao of Portugal)
2. Kokturk (HRE / Charlemagne) / Calanthian (Carthago / Hannibal) GMT +1
3. Methinkso (Arabia-Saladin) / Eclipse (Celtia / Brennus) GMT -5
4. Osbiath (UK-Churchill) and KiwiTT (USA-Roosevelt)
>> Kiwitt could you send a (different) order?

3b) the other switches around the following combinations: AG, BF, CE, DH and sends this via pm to me.
See the combo's in the very first post of the thread.
>> The first input from one of the other teams with a (reshuffled) combination will be used.

4) I combine the two, so then we know who is where..
The vets are placed in position E to H.

5) I put the correct teams and civs on the correct position on the map, and then the game can commence.
You all can check that I didn't switch around things AFTER my position became clear.
