Bootcamp Game?

On the little letters:

"Thousands of years ago, each of the eight noble houses has sworn a holy oath to the Ancient Emperor of Calanthe,
that their house would protect one of the eight castles which guard the entrances
towards the ancient, bountifull, center of the Calanthian empire.
The castle guard of each castle has sworn to defend it's castle and to never attack. "

(you get one explorer unit which can defend the castle for the next hundreds of years)
(the castle can sustain itself, but remember building more cities around the castle can cripple you, as maintenance will get very high)
(houserule: castles may NOT be traded)

KiwiTT (USA-Roosevelt) and Osbiath (UK-Churchill)

The castle and it's castle guard.

It is an extra city which can sustain itself.
But is is not just an extra city: it is on a crucial position:
it is the hub for both water and land travel. So it rules the connection between seas and continents.

Your castle will be far away from your core area. That is why the very good defensive explorer unit is located there.

Remember that settling another city in this area may hurt you in maintenance.

The map is finished.

Proposal for GAME START procedure:

1) Gpcii and Nighthawk tell us what civs they choose

2) I make the map available to all of you.

3) Then representatives from two other teams do the following:

3a) one make a random team order (e.g. 1,4,3,2) and sends this via pm to me
1. Gpcii / Nighthawk
2. Kokturk (HRE / Charlemagne) / Calanthian (Carthago / Hannibal) GMT +1
3. Methinkso (Arabia-Saladin) / Eclipse (Celtia / Brennus) GMT -5
4. Osbiath (UK-Churchill) and KiwiTT (USA-Roosevelt)

3b) the other switches around the following combinations: AG, BF, CE, DH and sends this via pm to me
See the combo's in the very first post of the thread.

4) I combine the two, so then we know who is where..
The vets are placed in position E to H.

5) I put the correct teams and civs on the correct position on the map, and resend the map.
You all can check that I didn't switch around things AFTER my position became clear.

OK?

Exciting Calanth, sounds good to me.

I have emailed my teammate to discuss some strategems and we will get back to everyone with our civ selections shortly.

The order for my team is correct as methinkso plays a bit earlier than me and if he runs late I'm still able to play that same night

I thought some more about making it pittboss or a PBEM.

With 8 players I strongly recommend making it a pittboss with a 24hr turn around until 2000 BC, and after that 48 hrs.

With a PBEM with 8 players we can only achieve this IF everybody plays within 3 hrs after receiving the turn..

Pitboss
A pitboss game is being hosted by a pitboss server.
The pitboss server is available 24/7, players can login to this server everytime they want to play their turn. The pitboss server will automaticly advance to the next turn when a certain ammount of time has passed.

So you can play at convenient times, without holding up the game.

The main difference, between pitboss and pbem that is significant, is the ability for the game to continue play, when a player is unable to play. A good player will have a small build queue and try to set up long moves with the possibility of not being able to play in mind. And if the player disappears, then it's relatively simple to kick to AI and hope that someone takes it over. A PBEM would have to completely halt.

In Civilization 4: Beyond the Sword (patch v3.19) select Multiplayer - Direct IP Connection

In the screen that follows fill out the following information:
Name: Anything Anonymous

Server IP: to be determined
password: NONE
