Bootcamp Game?

On tech: trading & brokering off
still both players of each team do their teching together. (that is standard)
I would advise against exchange of techs between teams.

No teams only get a bonus on researching the same Tech, any techs you get otherwise could/should be gifted

Now I am confused. Is there a switch in the set up that allows tech trading only with in a team? If not how can you gift a tech with trading off?

When you create the game, you place each nation in the same team.

Nation 1 and 2 in Team 1
Nation 3 and 4 in Team 2
Nation 5 and 6 in Team 3
Nation 7 and 8 in Team 4

Techs development points is shared.

I understand that, but with tech sharing off how does nation 1 and 2 share tech?

They have all the same techs - If one develops a tech the other automatically gets it. If they are developing the same tech that the tech points are combined.

Huh? Thats cool I didn't know you get his tech automatically then again I don't play many fixed team games. Good to know!

gpcii I might be wrong here, I know a 2 player team can research the same tech simultious faster than doing it on your own, I am not sure if you automatically get the other players tech because I have limited knowlege on fixed team games.

Its what happens in my Road to War. ;)

UGH now I'm confused about the map regarding team placement?

If A and F are a team and A goes up he is at F and that works for me
but
If B and D are a team and B goes up he is at G ?
If D goes West he is at E

Don't change anything because your probably right I just don't see it :(

Either put the all team members next to each other or opposite each other (like I did). Anything else will give disproportionate advantages and disadvantages

I think I understand the teching thing with teams, and I agree, tech trading should be off between teams. Teching will already be faster than normal since we will be effectively double speed.

And I also agree about the "always war" option... I wasn't implying that I wanted it, I just didnt know the options. We definitely need to keep diplomacy open between teams, since that is the best part of PBEM games, in my opinion, and something else for the "newbies" to learn.

Maybe Calanthian can update the first post to show all of our game options so we have something to refer back to?

My vote is not for unrestricted leaders, I prefer the way the game was naturally built, I don't like the feel of combining things like that. BUT of course if thats what everyone wants I will gladly work with it.

I haven't played teams in a while, but if I remember correctly, the beakers for techs are increased. However if both team members work on the same tech, they will get it faster.

If we decide to leave unrestricted leaders off, I'll stick with Saladin as Arabia instead. I don't care which option we choose, though.

This I agree with completely, there is a major difference between a game that has no ingame chat or diplomacy and a game that does. When an AI demands gold in the Diplomacy screen it has little effect. But you receive an ingame message demanding gold or I will attack you from a human player and you will sit up straight in your chair to be sure!

This thread should answer the questions about team play

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=179231

A PBEM Team game works pretty much the same as an offline team game. Two or more civs share maps and technologies. Teammate AI's will accept one-way trades for anything, even if they have only one of the resource. You are not guarunteed to start next to your teammate, and . That's about it.

Yes, but with a catch. In a team game the costs of technologies are increased depending on the number of players on the team. I'm not sure if it's a direct ratio or not, but generally it will take you just as long to research 1 tech in a team game as it will in a SP. However, if you have a player or players who aren't teching very well, your overall tech will slow down -- you can't neglect GNP.

Also, because of this, everyone on your team should research the same tech. If one player researches Bronze Working while another researches Animal Husbandry, you'll take twice as long to get both.

So Calanth, I'm curious... what do the little letters mean? :p

I'm fine with any team setup at this point, as long as the teammates are "near" each other via worldwrap in some form (ie. next to one another)... I do like the "back to back" idea, like criss-cross. B&G, D&E, C&F, A&H...

Would there be issues with expansion if the teams are too close?

My guess is that each civ has its own little area to expand in, with landbridges connecting them. So surely anyone could expand into someone elses territory, but as long as teammates are connected, theyd know to stay in their own area (unless planned so otherwise). Doesnt seem to me like that would cause a problem.

Updated team setup.

Every team is back-to-back (as the map wraps around in both directions).

The castles are redefined. If everyone is ok with it, then I can update the map.

I need ALL of you to select your leader and civs (NO unrestricted leaders). Then I can finalize the map.

IMPORTANT : do I share the map with you guys? (I think that is best)

PS. There is ample room for each civ to expand.
