thanks for the map actually. archipelago is quite nice once in a while :)
I SIP and opened my christmas present from the ice queen... she went wonderwhoring like no tomorrow, leaving me the GLH for grabs (around 1600BC) then I went expanding to 9 cities, but only close to food (too many island with only desert or ice and no resource :()
Tech is compass col currency monarchy math alpha mc. I´m on my way to engineering and then astro.
2nd city went 4N to the copper sharing crab, 3rd city NE to the other clam sharing corn.
Mids went to russia, but i got hanging gardens.
Ice Qeen stayed at 3 cities for a VERY long time, but started expanding now. Frenchy guy is stuck 1 city in warmode ;-((( WTH
Nice map, I wanted to go for conquest, but with no vassals dom will be faster maybe, settling all the little and worthless islands to grab land.

I went all out for for the GLH, grabbing it in 1960 before a settler even (not that there was much worthwhile to settle ). That was too early though, since it then took me forever to get good TR. I kept meeting other scouting workboats, but couldn't find any AI cities.

I'm about to settle city #7, and really don't know where I want to go from here. I'm thinking of beelining privateers to try to slow down the icequeen. No real end game plans yet.

Have not played in quite a long time. I started playing again last month and had to re-learn a lot of things and am still in that process.

I moved to the hill 1N and went quickly for workboats, and Stonehenge. I built cities north of the copper, far east by clam and west of stone.

Hooked up stone to build Pyramids which I rushed with 4 turns left. Building Moai in the stone city.

Hinduism hit my copper city and I converted and spread.

At 1AD I have 4 cities, and settler about to pop to go get pigs.

I've only built 1 warrior, and I'm sure that will bite me at some point.

Portugal has 4 cities and France and England have 5 each.

I went for Alpha so I could get some of the early techs, which I did from Portugal. Hoping to get MC from France soon. No idea which way I'm going yet.

status up to 300BC (forgot to save at 1AD):

First, thanks for no barbs.

6 cities. 4 on the mainland. capital SIP. city#2 1N of corn. city#3 eastern tip by clam. city#4 1N of copper. cities#5/#6 on islands with fish. Giggles grabbed the pig spot to the eastern island which sucks.

GLH 1200BC
Colossus 400BC
Pyramids 175BC (rushed with GE from city#2)
I didn't try for any other wonders at this point...and I'm glad because the Ice Queen was grabbing them fast.

120bpt @ 100% research with -21gpt. Most of the way through machinery, but I will divert to currency->CoL->CS next. Could be better if I scouted with 2 additional workboats to find more AI cities since I have GLH.

I should have tried to rush or pin Joao with Gallic Warriors / Axe. He is starting his crazy expansion mode (7 cities already). Ice Queen is sitting on 4 cities. Giggles is at 4 cities. And another AI i've met (possible spoilerish at this point) is at 3 cities. 2 AI left unknown.

The islands directly around us are kind of poor resource-wise so I plan to use maces/cats against Joao before he gets longbows. He is the only Buddhist and everyone else is Hindu. Lots of different religions spread to me early, but it took my 6th city to get Hindu. Not very useful for civics/happy yet, but worth the +diplo mods even at 1 city.

First thanks for the nice game kcd!

Got the GLH in 1480BC, whipped 3 citizens into it and was happy to have it. I think it makes a big difference for the further progess ;).

Some screens from 600 BC (6 cities) - I didn't save around 1AD and I don't dare to open an autosave because I'm still playing ... as far as I remember I had at 1AD around 10 citites.

I build no other wonders (Oracle and TC went early away)

With the Ice Queen's huge head start in technology, I assumed the big challenge would be surviving against her. I settled in place and concentrated on building my commerce and science. By 1 AD, I have five cities. I completed the GLH in 875 BC and the Colossus in 325 BC.

Remarkably, the Ice Queen hasn't shown any sign of aggression, despite being furious/annoyed at everyone.

One question for you, kcd: why isn't Stalin in the holiday mood?

Awesome game! I think I have a strong start.

Empire:
Spoiler :
Settled my cap 1N on the grass hill. Tech order was Fishing->Mining->Agri->Bronze->Sailing->Masonry. Initial build order was worker->WB at fishing->finish worker->WB for exploration->WB->settler.

Settled 2nd city 1S of bronze to share food. 3rd City 1E of Clam on the Stone island; hooked up stone and began Mids in cap. 4th city was going to be near pigs, but Giggles got there first, so it settled on the east end of main island. 5th city will be on the 1 tile desert island with fish (sort of NE of main island).

Events:
Spoiler :
BC 1640 Oracle to England; I think she popped CS because she adopted Bureau in 1600.
BC 800 GL to Russia; totally could've chopped that one - I had sailing in 1960.
BC 575 Mids to me! I love having the mids because Rep is great for more whip and then for an OP specialist economy when CL comes in.
BC 525 Daoism to England, 425 Great Artist (Music) to England.
BC 475 Colossus to England. I didn't even have MC. Sort of worried that she'll be a runaway train with financial+colossus.
BC 325 Researched Currency and traded for Alphabet; tech-traded for Med, Poly, Iron, Archery, Mono, Monarchy in the subsequent turns.

Strategy:
Spoiler :
In terms of foreign affairs, Portugal and France have 2 cities a piece; the rest of us have 4-5. One Civ unknown.

As for religion, England built Solomon quite early, but then she converted to Buddhism with Russia :crazyeye:. Everyone-else is now Jewish :D!

From here, my path to victory includes popping the Great Library with an engineer when Lit is done, then researching Construction and DOWing Portugal with 5 Gallics, 3 Cats, and 2 Spears (Btw, my military currently consists of 1 galley and 1 axe . I'll do it with whips.); all he has is horse so it should be a pushover. Probably gonna need 2-4 triremes for escort. After eliminating Portugal, I'll build up tech advantage before DOWing Russia. My cap will build NE & Oxford; any great people will be settled there, but 1 engineer will be saved for Mining Corporation. Generals will be settled in my 4th city, which will build Moai and Heroic. As for the Ice Queen, my tentative plan is to pop Astronomy with Liberalism and then spam Galleons to blockade all her cities. Hopefully that will buy time to pick up Chemistry and Military Science and finish her off.

A Glitch? Any help will be appreciated!
Spoiler :
It is now a much later year, so I'll try to be as ambiguous as possible to avoid spoilers. 1 Civ is extinct, 2 Civs are Buddhist, 3 Civs are Jewish, 1 Civ is Hindi. A Buddhist Civ built the AP a long time ago. About 20 turns ago, I captured the city with the AP, but the AP religion still appears to be Buddhism: Buddhist buildings are the only ones that get the hammer bonus, non-Buddhist countries have fewer votes, and a Buddhist Civ got the 2nd nomination (and won the election). Why????? If no one can figure it out, I'll keep playing because I'm winning and I don't NEED it, but if it worked properly, I might be able to win via 'Religious Leader' or at least vote in a 'DOW heathens'.

Among all the starts in this thread, I think cas has got the best. For this map, he's got the three best early wonders! He's got the beakers to catch the Ice Queen, and if he wipes out Joao now, he will have no other competition in the end game.

Thanks for replying, srad! In my other games, the AP was obsolete or I was running the AP religion. Now I can get back to playing!

Settled in place, also tried for GLH and got it. As the mids didn't seem to go, I tried for it quite late after settling on the stone and also managed to get that. At 1AD had 7 cities and music just in the bag.

Compared to the games above I had a weak start. Capital SIP, expanded to 7 cities, the last being on the Ice Queen's landmass. Also settled near food.

I settled copper city for clams on its BFC but it seems it would be better have settled it to share the corn instead.

Didn't build any wonders, I should really have tried for the GLH at least. Assorted religions in my cities, capital got buddha so that's the official religion, giving me diplo bonus with Nappy and Sumeria.

Didn't pay attention on the "no barbs" setting, leaving a scout and later a warrior to fogbust the icy south lol :hammer2:

At the moment preparing for invasion on St Nick, with gallicpults and a few jumbos. Don't know what VC I'll be pursuing.

So, I SIP, placed 2cd city 1S of copper, 3rd on the western tip. I went straight for sailing so I could make a run at the GLH. Got it and then I decided that the IQ had to be kept in check. I sailed a WB to the NE and met Giggles and then found an IC city. Took all my GW(8) straight to the first IQ city I found and took it with my last unit. York was the founding location for 5 religions, 'mids, SH, ToA, Oracle and more that I can't remember. So now, we will see where to go from here.

Am I playing the same game as everyone else? The Great Lighthouse was built in 1720 BC by someone else. (challenger game...shouldn't affect that)

Am I playing the same game as everyone else? The Great Lighthouse was anyuilt in 1720 BC by someone else. (challenger game...shouldn't affect that)

I know how you feel. Colossus went in my game before 2000bc. I did manage glh, but i got it crazy early.

jesusin, contender. Goal: Fastest Cultural victory,

Settled in place to keep the Deer in the inner ring and to have a superb capital in the end of the game. In the beginning it could share some of its food.

After analyzing several options, I decided to go Worker first till Fishing was in.
Then changed to WB and completed it. I took a long time to decide between working on another WB till pop2 (which would lose 1 hammer to decay) or going back to the Worker immediately (which would have 1 turn of idle Worker). I decided the latter, to get more Worker turns.

After Fishing, Mining and BW, only then Agriculture. This way I get slavery and mines sooner. Hammers are the key in this start.

I completed a second WB while growing twice to pop3. Only then I started a Settler.
It went NE on a PH, with Clams, 2PH and shared Corn. Taking the Corn immediately made for a quick development of the city.

Confu and Tao are gone, together with the 3 early religions, I am worried.

City placing (in particular "03") was my biggest mistake this game. Before building another settler I sent 2WB to explore the world. As I was planning for early Alphabet, I was more interested in sailing far away than in exploring my surroundings. Consequently I didn't know if there was food North of the Stone or not when I settled my third city.

I put it on the Northernmost tip of our island, with Clams and Copper. It should have gone South of the Copper, sharing some food with the capital and leaving the Clams for the Stone city.
As it was, I had to put a completely useless city on the Stone.

Only Sailing (get out of here) and Pottery (Granaries for improved whipping) before Alphabet.

1000BC stats: 3 cities, 12pop, 1workers, 3WB, Gal, Set, 3units(3War), 1 strategic resources, 0 luxury resources, 4 health resources, 0 great persons, 0 world wonders, 0 national wonders, food/production/commerce=39-20-50,32 bpt at breakeven, 8 culture per turn, 0 great person points per turn, 40 gold, 3monu, 2Gra, 2lh. 1 religions, 1/1 cottages used, 13 Techs: Alpha, IW, Sail, nothing post Myst. 0 civs killed. 2.5 hours played.

Currency immediately after Alphabet, it was huge.
04 East by pigs.
05 on stone.

02 started on Pyramids and 03 started on Moai, to have production enough o become Legendary. I am worried about finding a suitable place for the third Legendary. Not many 2-food-resource-sites around.

After Currency and important decision had to be taken. All Wonders were in the same city: York.
One option was peace. I would research MC for Colossus, then try and trade for Maths.
The other option was war. I would beeline Construction for Cats and put all my civ into the war effort against the IceQueen. This is the option I chose.

GS for Academy.
06 NE with a single fish and 2 hills, as a base to assault England.
07 West with Fish, Gold and Ivory, to get much needed happiness.

I failed to get Pyramids by 4 turns. No problem, they are in York too.
I got first to Music. At 1AD I am ready to dow.

1AD Stats: 7 cities, 34 pop,3workers, 5Gal, 25units (7Cat), 2strategic resources, 2luxury resources, 3health resources, 2 great persons, 1 world wonders, 1 national wonders, food/production/commerce=91-57-105, 52 sustainable beakers per turn, 20 useful culture per turn, 3 great person points per turn, 75 gold. 5 religions. 3/3 cottages used, 21 Techs: Curr, Music, no Lite, no MC, no CoL. 0 civs killed. 8 hours played. 5rel*city, 0temples, 0cath

So... where did you settle?
.. on the deer (It was late, and I wasn't thinking).

Did you survive this long?
... Yes, is that bad?

Do you have any realistic hope of actually winning the game somehow?
... Are you saying the game is unwinnable?
... At least I am not the ICE QUEEN's worst enemy ... the troll wins that slot 8)

The beginning and cities:
#1- Bibracte 1N (3960 BC) ==> Worker / changed to WB / finished Worker / WB
#2- Vienne N (2040 BC) – 1 clam, 1 copper
#3- Tolosa E (1840 BC) – 1 clam, 1 corn (shared)
#4- Gergovia E (975 BC) – 1 pig

Technologies, Wonders and Great Persons:
- Fish / Min / BW / Agric / TWheel / Sail / Pott / Writ / Mas / AH / Construction / Alpha / Currency
- No Techs traded yet :(
- In my game, as a result of the techs gave to Ice Queen, England Empire became a Land of Wonders and York a City of Wonders :
London: Stonehenge
York: Oracle, GLH, Pyra, Artemis, HG, Colossus and Kashi Vishwanath :crazyeye:
- No Wonders – I gave up trying to build them .
- 1 Great Scientist: Academy in Bibracte (125 BC)

The game:
- Meetings: England, Russian and Portuguese
- No Army prepared yet… I’m thinking in war with Cats and Maces, but this game is weird :crazyeye: and I don’t know if I can win it .
- I accepted the England’s religion. Our Diplomacy started with -9 and now is in -2. Maybe this game may be pacific and have another course.

1 AD:
- 4 cities (all founded) - Pop 24 / Treasury 0g
- 80 bpt at 100% / 55 bpt breakeven at 70%
- Last in score. My score: 289 / Ice Queen’s: 750 …

Challenger save. Goal : Religious

I sent workboats in both directions to get the circumnavigation bonus. I was almost there when I realized....flat map:blush: At least I had a chance to meet everyone so I can work on our relations and trade tech. I won't mention all the AI by name since some of you haven't explored that much yet.

Meanwhile, wonders were dropping like flies, so, when Theology went in 2400BC, I decided to let the Ice Queen build the AP. I will have to capture it. I probably could have/should have just built it myself and skipped the war, but this sounded like a nice change.

I only built 1 settler.

I beelined Alphabet (as usual). Did not even bother with Ag or mining/bronze, etc.
I raced to Optics, and here I sit waiting....with my army at the Queen's doorstep...for the AP to get built.

Decided war was too tedious on this map so I'm trying for something different: Space! SIP. At 1 AD:
400 score (2nd behind IQ with 712)
5 cities (3 on mainland in the usual places, plus SW of stone, S of spices, plus 1 settler on the way to N of pigs)
24 pop
125bpt, -19 gpt @ 100% science---100 bpt @80% breakeven
23 techs (Calendar, Construction, Currency, with Civil Service in 5)
GLH 950 BC
Mids 150 BC
Hanging Gardens in 3
Academy in capital
Moai in the copper city, which will become my powerhouse production (and HE) city
Techs: Fishing, Ag, Mining, BW, Wheel, Pots, Sail, Mason, Write, Alpha (925 BC), Math, Cal...

IQ is Hindu, everybody else (but me--waiting for somebody to ask me to convert to gain favor) is Jewish. My plan is to be buddies with everyone but the IQ and trade techs liberally for gold, then smash the IQ when I have a good tech advantage and she's had lots of time to build more wonders and shrines for me.
