BOTM 72 Final Spoiler - Game Submitted or Abandoned

Trying to go for Eptathlon so pushing Conquest, which I rarely ever go for in most games except HOF. Have basically been playing no Civ for some time now. However, I'd start this up way back when so decided to finish it out.

For the most part I played unfocused early despite a focused warrior rush to wipe out De Gaulle first thing. I wasn't sure which victory I would go for and the obvious lack of AIs early threw things off.

Priority early was expansion and GLH. Oracle went fairly early so I missed a CS sling. Ha..i'd just been sitting on a 1t oracle for some time waiting to get CoL finished. Not surprising though, Izzy is always a possible Oracle thwart on lower difficulties - at least relatively speaking.

Filled out most of land mass in the BCs/early ADs while shooting for Astro bulb. Planned a 2 prong attack on Russia and Willie, with those 2 prongs advancing on Biz and Iz then converging on Roos. Really though if I played Conquest more aggressively which I always fail to do, I''d be hitting all 5 at the same time or close to it. Armies consisting mainly of Maces, Cats and Trebs with a Knight or two.

I think 500 AD to 1000AD is a reasonable date for the aces here, if one really pushes that early Astro. My mistake probably was trying to expand to much early but I thought I might go Space at one point. Anyway, I finished in 1310AD with 180K some odd points. Conquest is a hard victory to master here with since the crackerjacks GOTMs are just tough to beat.

Otherwise, fairly straightforward game. Nothing surprising really or any tough losses. I'd wanted to take more of Izzy's land including Madrid and some wonders, but she had Elies at this point and I was stretched a bit thin, so I capped her instead of advancing.

Goal: Conquest.
Plan: Early Astro.
Execution: Double GS bulb Astro fairly early. Killed off the 2 unfriendly local Civs easily.
Results: Diplo in 1655 AD with all votes for 114k points.
Reason: They were all so nice to me. Even Izzy in a different religion was only annoyed for a short time. Oh well. Love it when a plan comes together.

There are 5 galleons worth cuirasses still waiting for further orders. Aimless, lost and confused as their leader. :crazyeye:

Nice going lymond, I think it's very decent date on this map
:goodjob:

I second this. Great time lymond. Your date won't be beat that easily on this map with all the needed logistics. Ai did not expand that well at least in my game. About 3-5 cities upto about 1000 AD but it would have taken a lot of good planning. Good job.

Eliminated Russia 1160AD
Got Astro 1180AD

Knights and trebs did the rest :crazyeye:

@lymond & Htadus: When did you get Astro?

@lymond & Htadus: When did you get Astro?

When I missed the CS sling with 3 turns, I said to hell with Maces. I rarely build knights so I went directly to cuirasses. I was not in a hurry to kill off the locals. Instead I got techs for peace since no one is trading. Here is the turn I bulbed Astro and got Philo for peace. I needed Philo so I can bulb astro and left French with a single city.

Turn 160/500 (1000 AD) [18-Nov-2013 17:44:53]
Newcastle begins: Library (7 turns)
Swordsman 3 promoted: City Raider III
Churchill (England) and De Gaulle (France) have signed a peace treaty
Tech acquired (trade, lightbulb, hut, espionage): Philosophy
Dover founded
Dover begins: Monument (30 turns)
Tech acquired (trade, lightbulb, hut, espionage): Astronomy

jesusin, contender. Goal: fastest cultural victory. Result: 1595AD cultural victory.

This is my worst game in a long while.
Stalin wouldn't trade because "he didn't like me enough". I prioritized Alphabet. I expected him to trade once he was Pleased with me. I should have known better.

Even when I explored everything and knew we were isolated, I continued to hope. Shame on me.

It was only at +6 and at 1AD than I realised he wouldn't trade because of monopoly reasons. By then, my economy was in ruins. Getting Sailing got me more gpt than Currency. It also allowed my religions to spread to his cities, but by then I had more than one and of course it was the wrong one that spread.

07 built on rice on the West tip, negative income at 0%.
08 built with incense, cow, rice.
09 built with clams, fish, shared clams.

Capital, Paris (GPFarm) and SouthWest city were my Legendary.
Pyramids got.

My Workers are bored.

Think seriously, I'm a professional, this is horrible compared to what it could have been, but I'll finish in good shape. AP soon for additional hammers, no Moai anywhere. Back to slavery+OR for serious missionary effort.

500AD, AP and HG are in, no more missionaries needed, back to Castes+Pacifism.
1000AD, rush 22 pop in slavery during Golden Age, 5 turns later revolt to FS, castes and pacifism.

thanks, pomthom

@lymond & Htadus: When did you get Astro?

I got Astro and CS in 640AD, holding off CS for the bulbs. Getting a CS sling in the BCs would have made things so much better. Also, I played rather unfocused, over-expanded, and should have been prepping for war prior to Astro bulb, hence such a long time until victory. I really would not be surprised if someone beat my date by quite a bit. I never teched Edu or Lib.

Still a very fine date, jesusin!

I decided I wasn't going to be competitive for a space win, though apparently looking at the results I might have been. So I decided to play all the way through and see what I could get score wise.

It was under 80 turns to the end and Germany was starting to head for space, so I invaded and started taking his cities to destroy his spaceship. I took 5 of the bigger cities and destroyed 1 more. I never saw a message that his ship was destroyed but he had 9 of 10 parts. Beforehand I sent a spy into the likely cities but to my disappointment, the spy can't see the spaceship, thus I kept playing "find the spaceship". Germany then vassaled to me and lo and behold now America pops up as my closest competitor in the space race with 9 of 10 parts built. I immediately turn my forces on them and he is down to three cities before he wins.

I know I must be missing something in how to monitor the space race (among other things!) What sucks is my spaceship had been ready to launch for sometime, as a contingency. I thought you got a message saying an AI had launched their ship. I am sure I must have missed a log message saying America had completed the last two parts.
