Hey y'all.
I have won a few imm games so i've been trying out deity now. I swear if I can just beat deity I won't have to go to my civ anonymous meetings anymore.
Here's this game, the start looked pretty killer, but then i realized i was boxed in af.
What to do? Here are two options I was considering: trying to get 3 cities and going for lib, or going for cho ku nus (unfortunately i can't bulb bc i had to get fishing already) and taking out a neighbor.
I don't have horses or elephants, which would have been the obvious choice here.
What do you guys think? Love to hear some strategy ideas and critique of my opening play.
settings: deity, pangea, qin shi, normal.
The save has BUG loaded.

dylan..install bug/bull in custom assets, dude...or use BAT

If you're really boxed in with 3 cities on Deity and have neither Horses nor Ivory, you should have Iron or Copper, otherwise your only chance to break out would be with Archers + Catapult.

You'll definately want to break out as early as possible, so forget about teching to Cuirrassiers, you have no Horses anyhow.

@ Dylan

Thanks to Lymond!, I was able to check out your save, although, due to WB (save) I'm unable to see your early tech path. I've got a few comments and thoughts. You actually have room for 5 cities, although I think 4 is probably better. Additionally you have stone nearby, your IND, and you have lots of food. Mids seems like a good choice and with them you should be able to tech up to Machinery and Cho some neighbors.

I'd suggest Pottery > Masonry > Wrt > MC (trade bait) > Machinery. You'll need to pre-chop forest and save for the Mids. Since you already have AH/BW and I see no strategic resource then there's a very good chance you have Iron in your Capital's BFC.

So how did you open anyways? I'm not sure if growing to happy cap was best here. Anyways, since I didn't have a 4000 BC WB save I made my own little Deity game and mirrored your land to show you where I'm at around the same time (2 turns later).

Here's how things look
Spoiler :
2 cities, another Settler on the way, 1 chop to date, and 6 improvements. In 7 turns (also same time needed to start and finish Masonry) I'll finish a wb, Settler, and get a border pop from the Capital. The worker will road to Stone and then improve it while the Capital probably goes worker>worker after and then starts to chop out Mids. My 2nd city will start my 3rd Settler soon. If I was actually playing this out I would go Masonry > Pottery > Writing > Mc > Machinery.

wow cseanny that looks really good. I think i'll try going for mids and machinery. i wish i could have watched your tech and build order from the beginning. the calculations for most efficient method get pretty thick pretty quickly when there are workboats involved

i guess i'll try again to install bug in custom assets so more people can access my stuff :p

How did you get one of those starts on a pangea map? :crazyeye: (Only seeing cseanny's save since I'm on my Civ-less computer.)
Do you have any neighbors at all that are reachable early with galleys? Though unless you have Gandhi I'm not sure if an overseas attack will have much success. To be honest, I'd restart a map like that so I'm interested in seeing if someone can beat it. If you are only starting out on deity it's better to have a start that's only slightly harder than the average immortal game.

Looks strong for a small island for yourself ;)
I would def. start on wonders (Pyras, GLH if doable with IND) sooner thou..settling stone city and then only what helps with wonders in my Cap.
Techs AH, fishing, BW, masonry & sailing already take some time, i would find none for stuff like pottery here early.

A DMC and Fippy

It's not a small island. It's all land with a coastal start. Like I said in my description, I only made a little mock-draft of his very close initial land. North, West, and South all have land. Actually, He has 2 neighbors already extremely close. One has already settled a city 4 tiles N of the Capital, and after you settle the Stone city, Washington will be 2 tiles away.

So don't take my screen shot as what the map actually looks like.....but all the land terrain I made is identical.

Qin shi with a start like that? Go go culture win.
