Bring in the Hebrews

Yes, but I can count 7 points... It should be one upsidedown triangle in front of one right site up one. It should also be light blue.

7 ... err, OK, I will put that preview so that we can discuss it further in the C&C forum. See you there !

@ Padma : should avoid being OT.
BTW are you boycotting my PMs at the moment ?

I can't find the preview thread :(. Can someone give me a link?

LouLong: I mean it looks like there were seven in your preview. There definately should be six. Sorry for any confusion. But in your preview here, it sort of looks like a sqaure in frond of a triangle (i.e. 7 points), but it's really not that important. And thanks for making the unit.

I just read this thread from the beginning and have some comments to add:

Why INDIA for cry loud!
INDIA is one of the ancient/modern nations (and civ's too) in the world and on the Game!
I need to understand yours motives. For me India Should and MUST stay on the Game!!!

@shadowplay
I agree with you (Iroquois empire issue)!

Israel is just one more civ in an area that makes Europe look like the wild west of the old world when it comes to wide open spaces.
Not necessarily Europe, you can fit him (Israel) on the Mediterranean civ's!!!

Leaderhead - Solomon
Scientific leaders - When a tech is discovered, the computer interchanges such terms as sages/prophets/scientists etc. Thus I/d suggest the use of the significant religious leaders of Israelite history - Moses, Samuel, Elijah, other prophets and priests.
Considering the facts that must of the intellectual were in fact prophets, priests and judges, you can and Should consider them as Sci. GL.

Now for the main topic:
Yes, I agree! Israel (Hebrew's or wherever) should be on CIV.
King Solomon;
UU: slingshot unit (as equivalent of an archer) or infantry unit (modern world), never an end type unit (like a modern infantry or modern tank);
Traits: Religion it's a fact, can't argument that! And Commercial, if you see in History, you always saw the main reason; they were and are a commercial nation. They are Excellent Manager of Business. Now the negative size: because of that they were always push, discriminated, expelled from land to land, WWII (no comments), and the creation of the state of Israel by the UN!!! (that's remained me another issue - the returning of a "disappear" civ nation after the UN created).

BTW those, the name Hebrew mean the people who come from the other size??? (Please clarify me on this one and on: who was the first king, Saul???)

1800-587 B.C. - The 1st king created the nation. In David's time, he unified the tribes, increased the territory and established Jerusalem as the capital nation. On Solomon's time, he built great works (and the famous Solomon Temple of Jesuralem) and prospered the kingdom on peacetime. After his death, the nation went to civil war and divide in to Judah and Israel. The Assyrian Capture Israel in 721 BC and Judah in 683 BC.

I can't believe no-one has mentioned the obvious UU - a settler with a a/d rating! Maybe with the spearman's stats so you could explore for city sites without escort. Of course, it couldn't make it more expensive or it would ruin the ability to expand. Not really doable as a proper game civ, but easy (I assume) to mod using the Sumerian leaderhead, and changing the traits to Religious/Agricultural. Then you can start the scenario with two settler units and invade the nearest civ before you even make a capital! ;)

One thing I've always wanted since CivII was the ability for conquered regions in your civ to maintain identity and break away - either negotiated, under democracies, forming a commonwealth with locked alliances, or violently, under dictatorships, East Timor style. Then opposing civs could ally themselves with a group of cities within your borders that you conquered, and help them to free themselves, like France's Auld Alliance with Scotland. I think only in that game, or one where you can relgiously convert other nations instead of conquering them (Civ4, hopefully?) would Israel be a good inclusion.

I added the Hebrews to Civ3:PTW. Created the Machabee - a 2-3-1 unit with Iron Working. Made the leader King David, added cities like Megiddo, Netanya, etc., great leaders like Jeremiah, Isaiah, Elijah, and made them Industrious and Religious. They were a decent civ, though I never played enough to get a good feel.

Also added the Moors - special unit the Saracen...

First, you can't have anyone start with a UU in an epic game (to my knowledge...). Second, this would be really unbalancing.

Venger: How much did you make the Macabee cost? Because it has the same stats as the Numidean Mercenary, but comes from a spring off tech (okay if it cost less though).

Check out my Conquests Iraeli Mod Beta Version 0.1. Link in my sig. I will probably re-do the leaders in v. 0.2, and I have a bad fealing about what I did to the scientific leaders (i.e. I'm not sure if I changed them, and if I did, put in more than one). Also, I will probably change Israel to either Religious/Militaristic (most likely), or Religious/Industrius (less likely). But, check out the mod, give me your feedback in the thread, and have fun w/ the mod!

Maybe we should continue this conversation in my mod thread, as it seems like it should not be in this forum...

Sorry to bumb an old thread everyone
----------------------------------------------------------------
Well, there's only six days until the new year, and I was wondering, LouLong, are you still making the unit? Are you still going to release it at new years?

Look for IceBlazes threads. He has a link where you can add Israel to you games.

It wouldn't bother me if they added Israel or Not but leave the current ones in the game.

I have a mod with Israel. I am going to release a new version once I get this unit though. If you want it, go to completed omdpacks, and choose "Basic Israel" If I were you though, I'd wait a couple of days, until I release version 1.5. That will include a flag leaderhead (better than Gilgamesh, right?), and will remove the siege quinquereme (it defeats the purpose of a "basic" mod). Do you happen to know of any scientific leaders? That's the one field that needs work.

whoops, disregard :crazyeye:

In 1966-1967, I studied Ancient History at the University of Cincinnati. That was the university whose classics department was world famous for being the first to really find the real Troy in the late 1930's at Schlieman's site. Doctor Donald W. Bradeen was the professor of my class. He stated as I recall in class that the Hebwews were of but minor historical significance in the region. Considering that at that time (1966-67) over half of the university's department heads were Jewish and considering the university's close ties at that time with Hebrew Union College, I take the man for his word as well as his expert opinion.

Well, you and he are entitled to your opinions. For everyone that disagrees, IceBlaze's Israel mod is awesome, and if you want a conquests Israel mod, try mine. The Macabees did defeat the Greeks. And if the jews of Israel had not continued to rebel, who knows, Jesus might not have been crusified, and there might not be any christianity. Let's not start a political [spammy] discussion here, the sole purpose of reviving this thread was to see if LouLong was still making the unit. Of course that hasn't been answered yet but.... oh well.
