hi guys!
i just installed the game again, after replacing my computer(it worked before...)
and, when i tried to play, just after the introduction video, when i was expecting the main menu, my screen went black, i could still hear the music , but i couldnt see a thing!!!
can anyone please please help me?
thanks in advance :confused:

Your problem is that CIV sets the secreen resolution to 1024x768 and the frequency to whatever it gets from windows as the optimal for your monitor. If you don't have the correct monitor driver the frequency will be incorrectly reported from windows and thus incorrectly set by CIV.

The best fix would be to install correct driver. But it can also be fixed by telling civ which frequency to use. This can be done by editing the civ.ini file. I don't remember the line needed (although I use it myself at home), but it is stated in one of the patch readme's - 1.16 IIRC.

eli_co.. you are doomed to an eternity of torture and wrath at the hands of the Great Comerade Stalin himself.

I think TheNiceOne is right, but better to install the right driver since you're likely to have this come up again down the road with something else.

The previous posters are right. Get the correct monitor driver if possible. If this is not possible or it's still flaky after installing driver, (mine was), then right click your desktop and click properties and find out what refresh frequency you're using. If your using windows 2000 it's under the settings tab then click advanced. In other versions of windows it's in a similar place. Now that you know what refresh freq. your monitor is using, open up civilization3.ini and add the following line (without the quotes).
'Refresh=xx'
For instance, mine works best at 60Hz so I added Refresh=60 to my .ini file.
Cured all my problems. :D
