BTS Beta 8

This is a really tough one. I aborted the last one because Isabelle switched to her preferred civic "Theocracy" which forbids me to spread my religion "Hindu" to her. It seems that Isabella has to get conquered ore reli-infected before she gets Theocracy.

As I already noted:
put a missionary on a ship, send it to her and gift the missionary - she will use it on the closest city :smug:
This is something that Bhruic wants to make impossible in one of his newer releases, but currently it is allowed by the mod. Of course if it is consensus that this is an exploit we should not use it...

Hmm - must have read over this - but thanks for this tip. Even if it is an exploit I will use it next time I have played several hours and this spanish "lady" is indignant.

To achieve 600AD what is your tech-/settle- and conquer-path?

Well I failed to get votes due bad playing but I think its the timeline I got first votes around.

Just went for fish+sail as I got 2nd city with 4 warriors that could do workers. With high seas there are only good fishing food around anyway. Then I did bureau sling but its not worth it most likely. Aimed caravels next to spread relig and get around globe for +1 move. Finally while spreading relig I shot for apostolic. While nothing else to do few cities with colossus is nice bonus.

Ill try again but I think getting AI on same island takes so many reloads its out of my patience...

Sounds logical - so no real magic here to get victory. My last try yesterday ended in loosing the 1st vote by 1 and the 2nd vote by 2. Then no 3rd vote appear. It seems relig-dipl voting stopped at some point. Anyone knows when?

Im also wonderin what are the real conditions for election triggering. I had around 800 enough votes from myself and those rivals had all at least 1 city with religion. It seems to have some other checks too but I havent figured them out at least.

I really think that Firaxis goes too low when they dont put good documents out of everything in the game.

the religious and diplomatic victory votes do not come up if the player who can propose them has enough votes to award the victory to himself.
Ways to get around this:
- having the AP religion as your state religion doubles you vote, votes are only counted at the end of the turn while the above check is made at the beginning. Do not adopt the AP religion until the vote comes up, after the vote came up in the same turn adopt the AP religion.
- create colonies: they do not count in the check but unless they are the second largest voting power they have to vote for you.
- grow your cities on the voting turn to exceed the limit (happened to me accidentally in my submission).

I tried this and the missionary just seemed to disappear.... no spread of the religion

:hmm: this did work for me - of course the spreading can still fail unless there is no religion present in the city. Also they can decide to move it to another city (very unlikely if it is the only city on the landmass).

It works for me too, the only possibility that it disappears could be that the missionary fails because there is already another reli in the nearest city. If possible grant the missionary near a religion-free city.

Voting comes every 10 rounds or what was the time? And spreading relig will do that too most likely?

So I understand that votes are counted at the start of turn and when you end turn voting comes out at the end of turn then.

And this affects diplowin too? Havent tried such in Vanilla or warlords but do they have such check too (at least from strategies Ive heard they didnt before, right?)

In the end very stupid check as it can be moved around by artificial means.

Agreed. If the goal was to force you to have someone voting for you to make it a real diplo victory, they should have just checked that after the voting, instead of checking an artificial threshold the previous turn.

My first attempt was on a five-tile island that I was able to squeeze in two cities. I spent too much time going for the military techs, so I could grab Hatty's nice island right next door. Looks like the safest warmongering with these settings is with archers.

First time playing this variety of map.

Something must be wrong here, I am in 1st place?

I had a good start with gold, stone, and 3 clams. The first vote was in 920 but I could only get 2 of my cities to grow that turn so missed the vote by 2. In 1070 I was able to grow 3 cities and got the win.

I went peaceful, founded buddhism then went for sailing and masonry. Beelined alphabet so I could trade techs but could only trade with Hattie until I got optics. Beelined optics next and made sure I had 3 missionaries ready to go before I started building caravels.

In other tries I had built the pyramids early on but I am not sure that helps much. In this one I had built Stonehenge early on then moai statues and the great lighthouse.

I finally got the religious diplomatic in 1450 AD. I had Hatse on the same island and conquered here on turn 6. Then I seem to over-growth as "ori" mentioned. I built the Apostolic Palace and get only the votes to the pope but no diplomatic win. Then I remembered what Ori wrote - switched to FreeReligion and some turns later the vote appears. I immediately switched to OrgReli and I got it. The hardest part in this try was to find Isabella and infect her with my missionaries. Now that I know how to get the reli-dipl. win I think the toughest task is to find all opponents and spread the right religions.

Before I remembered Ori's advice I tried to build a colony but I failed. I cannot find the button at the F1-screen to release a city as colony! Any hints?

EDIT: Something I learned and want to share. Beaver on a river replaces the need for Gems or Gold. Hunting is done very fast and the beaver gives the same amount of coins and happy faces like Gems.

Nothing wrong there. On this map it is very hard to get superb start (damn I miss my conquest of Aztec). But theres lots of time to go, time will drop dramatically.

Actually it is so stupid that it could be changed for Hof-Mod somehow. As check is now purely artificial for twiddling around it is no fun and is no way based on skill (yes you can stop citygrowth and get 4 pop at round or change relig but its stupid).

Personally I like self voting for win but Id be happy if that was get votes from one other too.

And as were still on Beta changes like that could be done...

I like self voting as well. I dislike how BTS and Vanilla have different conditions for diplomatic win.

I am now at 1020AD. Didn't conquer anything and the start wasn't really promising. But I squeezed 4 cities on my initial continent and pop-rushed like crazy. My 1st intention was to get Justins cities but I cannot access his islands because the gap was too big - so I used my initial invasion force as 1st defenders of new cities. I used Oracle for Machinery and the Prophet to lightbulb Theology.
