[BtS] DIPLOMACY: a mod for Diplogames!

Somebody made a zebra unit once. Maybe you can find the download.

I've actually started to translate the diplotext into Spanish. I've started with Abu Bakr and Adenauer (alphabetically, of course).

I haven't found a Zebra texture anywhere, I'll see if I can maybe do it myself.

Another thing I am running into; when I am making flavored-sets its difficult for me to determine what to do about certain units. For instance; with England I used Zerver's early English set, which basically looks like the medieval units. I have sets for Spain, France, and Germany that are like this. But in some cases I have other units I could use as alternatives (for Spain there are those Iberian units but I am using them for Carthage, for France I suppose I could use either Franks or Gauls, and for the Germans I could use Franks/Germanic looking units). The only problem here is that not every civ is going to follow those parameters (the Sumerians, for example, will have what-if medieval units, the Americans have what-if medieval and ancient units etc.). So its difficult to determine what to do about this.

I guess I am asking what you guys think I should do. Should I take precdence in Geography or in the Civ. Basically if, for example, I am making Spain should I use Iberian/Celtiberian units as their ancient set, or since they were not SPAIN in the sense of the game should I just use Spanish-flavored units for the whole set. I hope the way I asked this makes sense to you guys but its kind of difficult to figure out what to do and I want the game to look really nice.

Last time I checked, Carthaginians were Semites, not Iberians.

The units were just from a pack of Iberian units, they are meant to be Carthaginian and are modelled after the Carthaginian units from RTW. So that's just what they are called.

RTW? What's that?

I'd go for Civ instead of Geography. I love the what-if units.

I actually agree entirely, and was thinking about this tonight before I got home from work. What I think I am going to do is make the units look appropriate for their style/type, but they will, more or less, exemplify important historical era per civ. So the British ancient units will actually be like Anglo-Saxon and Norman since that really represents the EARLY period of English history. I could use Celtic Britons of course, however they eventually were asorbed by the Romans (for the most part) and eventually became the Welsh, so I think for England I am going to focus on their ENGLISHNESS rather than their BRITISHNESS (especially since I have civs like Scotland and Ireland coming up in the deluxe version). So I think it will be relatively unique and fun as a graphics mod, and of course I'll have the expanded future era and other features.

They didn't really become British until they started engulfing half the world.

a ustedes no les gustaria la idea de cambiar la imagen de los grandes generales para que esten encima de un caballo, como el estilo de napoleon o genghis khan ?????

I think it would be too much work and not really necessary that GGs be on top of a horse. Maybe for flavor units but... don't think so.

Yeah, what Madman said. There are so many good flavored GGs out there that aren't on horses (there are a few that are, and if they look good I'll use them) that I'd rather use the horselss ones than the ones on horseback. Its a great idea though, but there just aren't any out there and my ability to create units is very limited.

Putting these flavored sets together is a lot of work, and its actually a little fun too, and I have decided on a few cool things to make it a bit more unique and different than other flavored-unit mods (like VD and Cultural Diversity for example). One of those things is the German medieval set; I've always thought it would be cool to represent medieval German history by having units from its various kingdoms and principalities. So the maceman could have a Prussian, Bavarian and Swabian soldier for example each with their own flavor. I think it would look really cool. I can even throw in a Teutonic Knight in the mix with the Knights! So I'm just wondering which German states do you think I should include?

You could do the same for America with rebels and yankees.

It's better than Midwestern units. They wouldn't fit on the screen. FAT!!!

Coincidentally, I'm a southerner and I'm dating someone from the midwest. :p

Depends on what time you want to base things on :)

The Holy Roman Empire after Napolen turned into the German Union. Thanks to Napoleon the 300 or so independent regions had been weeded out and merged to 60 or so independent regions around 1800. So the two from 1700 and 1800 have little in common.

Assuming you consider the HRE the HRE and therefore want the German Union as Germany, the obvious players are Prussia, Bavaria and Austria, for good measure throw in the Kingdom of Hanover or Saxony.

Here is a map of what 'Germany' looked like at that time.

If you want more options (and an older version of 'Germany' i.e. the HRE), go with the 1700s. There still are Bavaria, Austria and Saxony as major players (so you can keep those in any case), Prussia still was the Electorate of Brandenburg (major player too), for good measure add the duchy of Luneburg :)

Here is a map of that time.

Maybe Austria is not a good choice, depending on which civs you want to add, but Prussia / Brandenburg and Bavaria certainly qualify as german, as do the other ones like Saxony.

That's great Mamba, but I said medieval/I] units. So I'd basically be going with the states that made up the HRE. To clarify this a bit, I am actually replacing the HRE with the Franks, so there isn't really overlap and in essence Germany assumes the history of the HRE for my mod's purposes at least.
