[BtS] Disappearing Religions

What if there is only one religion in the country? There should be also opportunity to do nothing.

I would think using the original concept of a threshold number of religions within a civilization would be a necessary prerequisite for this event.

Your idea is very interesting, but I find annoying and unrealisitic that a religion may disappear completely and suddenly.

Instead of using a high threshold of 5 religions in a whole civ, you could use a lower threshold (like 3 religions) in cities. When a city reaches this number, each religion has a probability to disappear at the beginning of the turn, depending on how the religion is spread in the world. This way the less influential religions would be more likely to disappear and if the biggest religions continue to spread, minor religions would gradually collapse.

And this can probably be done without major changes to your code ;)

I could have sworn there was a religion mod that moved Holy Cities around if they were "unused", and featured the Inquisitor.

Also for mods that add extra religioins... this component can be used to maintain balance while adding a greater selection of religion choices...

Possible to make the modern religions (Christianity, Islam, etc) stick with the game, e.g. 0% chance to disappear? It would be great to have old religions die out in favour of new ones. Or have civ-specific religions from the invention of Mysticism or Polytheism that would die out in a city when a more modern religion came about.

I think it would be better for religions to randomly have a chance to be removed from individual cities under certain circumstances. I don't think it should be automatic, and I don't think a certain number of religions should be needed for one to be removed. I'd probably tie it to population. Tiny towns may have trouble handling more than 1 religion, but a huge metropolis might have no trouble with 7. Temples, Cathedrals, etc of one religion should increase the chance of pushing another one out.

What could be better would be if the religions claimed a percentage of the city population, much how culture works.

I like the idea of religions not being permanent - especially if the religion is never supported, i.e. if Hinduism spreads to a city, but a temple is never built or any other building related to that religion, it could have 1% chance each turn of leaving the city. It could always be spread back of course, but I do like having religions that are dormant recede. I don't think you would want to do that to a religion that has been improved - if someone has built a temple, monastery, and cathedral, it makes no sense that the religion would just vanish...

I used this ModComp as part of my FutureMod, since I have 15 religions and it gets a little unwieldy, but I didn't want Inquistor play. However, I changed it a little. I still have 5 religions as the trigger, but I fixed some real weaknesses. First, your state religion is exempt. Second, you get a chance to save the randomly selected religion from obscurity by spending gold--essentially when one of your cities gets a new religion that gives your civ a total of five you are going to lose a religion sooner or later. Each turn you can spend 200 gold per turn until the religion you feel you can afford to lose happens to come up randomly before the axe. Finally, the religion is lost only in your own civ, not world wide.
