!! BTS for Mac Petition !!

May I humbly suggest that you advertise this petition slightly more. I have no idea how (perhaps AlanH could help) but I do know that there are many Mac users on CFC that will never see this petition. I only stumbled upon it by chance, but I am sure that there are a lot of Mac users that have never entered this sub-forum. So, I reckon that for this petition to be successful, you'd need to target more Mac users in the wider CivFanatics community, by advertising, somehow, outside this sub-forum.

What incompatibilities are you aware of?

As far as I know, they are as compatible as they will ever be. You can save a Warlords (or vanilla) game, or a WorldBuilder scenario, on either platform and open it on either platform. And I believe they play to the same game rules. Keyboard shortcuts are different in some cases, but that's inevitable - they are different keyboards, and the Mac OS uses some of the standard shortcuts itself.

The incompatibilities are mostly related to user-created mods. Aspyr would need to create an entire Windows dll emulation layer, and to port the Windows XML parser into the game to make them work. That isn't going to happen, because Aspyr don't like user-created content. Just try to report an issue to them related to using a mod :eek:
 
No, cross-platform-saving/opening doesn't work. And it would be great if Mac and PC could play a LAN game together which doesn't work at the moment either.
 
I assume you are running version 2.13 in both operating systems?

Have you an example of a game save that will not open in one of the OS's?

Multiplayer doesn't always work between Windows players, either. I think it's very flaky.
 
well, to camikaze, I have no idea how I would advertise this. If I took it to another web-site, would it help?
 
Count me in; I may not have a Mac (nor any plans to ever get one) but Mac users deserve BtS.

If I purchased the Mac versions, I wouldn't be able to play BtS with my favorite mods. Unless and until Firaxis is able to write an SDK that will create mods that work cross platform, I see no need to purchase a Mac version.

I play civ on the PC, but Mac users don't deserve to miss out on all the fun BTS has to offer, sign me to the petition :thumbsup: .
