[BTS Total Mod] Thomas' War

I've started another game on a large map, so far no problems, but I'm only at the beginning of the middle ages right now, so we'll see if I get any MAFs tomorrow.

One thing I noticed: I still get the Granary+Agricultural bug with Meshken. It only happens once per city (the first growth after building the granary), so it's not a big problem.

I like all the new stuff you added, should give me plenty of things to do for the next weeks! Mercantile still is pretty good on certain maps, but less so than before. I'll see in multiplayer how this works out.

Sigh, I was sure I fixed that Meshken thing... I even re-wrote a whole section of the code. Oh well, maybe it balances the trait and would be way overpowered with out. Probably not, but it's a nice lie to say while I continue to work out the problem.

After long debate I decided to leave Mercantile at 15% for the time being for the reason that in multiplayer it can be countered by a rival actively blockading your towns. See 20% was too strong, I felt 10% was appropriate if it didn't have the drawbacks of being only coastal and susceptible to blockades. So the current compromise is 15%.

Dip gives espionage defense I just forgot to add the text file.

For the MAFS, I would suggest re-downloading instead of the patch, if you haven't done so already. It won't break a save since they have the same XML and python files if you haven't and need to re-download.

The first release is always tentative to find the bugs that won't show up on my computer and balance issues with new things / adjustments. So big stuff that show up will be fixed soon, so please do post bug reports.

The Game Won't Load It Tries 2 Or 3 Times With An Error Message Each Time, And An Eventual Shutdown.

Well, what was the error message?

If it's something to do with directx that means you need to update your graphics card drivers or you don't have the latest version of direct x.

If its the GNC error you are probably loading the game from the wrong directory (should be the one in program files/firaxis/civ 4/bts/mods NOT the my games/MODS directory).

Post more specifics so I can help your further.

Not right now.;)

Crap, the scenarios completely slipped my mind. :( .As I said bunch of work came up this month so I was kinda rushing to just get it done and out and then I haven't been feeling well. I've been meaning to put them all back in since I fixed the bug.

I'll collect all the scenarios that you and others so graciously made in one place and post them here and when I finally get the mod hosted someplace other than filefront include them in the main download. My computer and Mod DB just don't seem to get along anymore, but the file is still too big for the other normal places.

Or better yet, I'll put them with the inevitable first patch that fixes all the bugs I inevitably missed.

OK, thx!

I am having problems even downloading your mod. Every time I do and try to extract the files I get corrupt file messages.

Hmm,

First, are you downloading it from the link in this post:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=11092

(This is just to check were using the same version).

Second, it's a big file so you need to save it to your desktop instead of trying to extract / open it directly from the download.

Finally, which extractor program are you using? I would recommend:

http://www.7-zip.org/

Mainly as that's the program I used to compress it although other programs do work.

I know some countries can't download from file-front (mostly Eastern Europe) and am working to get a mirror up so this may be the case.

Besides that, I just re-downloaded and extracted the file and it works fine as well as had a friend on another computer do so, so I don't think it's the download itself. If other people who are playing the new version can confirm this?

Okay, I just don't know what's going on with Mod DB.

Does anyone know where else I could host something that's 371 MB and that people who can't download from file front can download from?

Love the mod, but after 3.5, I get a lot more "failed to allocate video memory" CTDs

I get the attached error after about a dozen or so turns. Playing with BTS 3.17 with a custom game on random civs, prince setting with teutonics map.

Tried a few different resolutions with AA off etc. but to no avail. My drivers are all up to date...any ideas?

First, did you use the patch to update or re-download the mod? Second, are you using static leaderheads or animated? Third, what world size do you play in?

Re-downloading the mod as opposed to the patch reduces errors, as well as using the static leaderheads and wonder movies. The full game with animated leaderheads and wonder movies is around 1.6 GB, whereas if you use the static it's only about 750 MB, so almost half as big. Unless you have a really high-end system I wouldn't recommend using the animated all the time (although it is possible to switch between them without breaking your saves).

I have a problem. I unzip Thomas' War V3.5 into the games' mod folder but when i start the game and go to the section to load a mod up, the thomas' war mod is not there.

Can someone help me?

Are you sure you put it in the right folder?

(The default path is usually something like program files/firaxis games/sid civilization iv/beyond the sword/mods)

Secondly, if it is there make sure you didn't create an extra folder. Basically, in Mods there should be a folder called Thomas' War and in Thomas' War there should be a folder called Assets.

Follow the same advice I posted right before this:

It sounds like you most likely created an extra folder while unzipping. The Mods directory should have a folder called Thomas War and then the Thomas War folder should have a folder called Assets. I'm betting yours goes mods/thomas war/thomas war/assets. If so the first thomas war is an extra folder so move the next thomas war into the mods directory instead. that probably sounded more confusing than it is.

Edit: Since you said it it says Thomas War 3.5 in the corner I'm almost positive this is the problem. As the zip file is called Thomas War 3.5 while the mod folder is just called Thomas' War. So I'm guessing it created an extra folder with the same name as the zip file.

WOW THANKS
All this time and that was the problem you rock and so does your mod!!!
Thank you so much!! :goodjob:

Sorry For the trouble but i went and checked you suggestions and everything is as you say, but it is still not showing up. I think it's more towards user error than anything. Now this is the first time I have installed a custom mod, is there any special program i need to get before i should download?
Thanks for the help.

I redownloaded the mod and am using animated leaderheads. The size of the map is large. I have a high-end sys.

I don't like playing with statics, the ani's is where your mod really comes to life would be a shame to lose these.

Is the only fix to go static or is it a graphics option which is causing the error?

Hello, thanks for your dedication, the mod is awesome. The only thing it lacks is the original next war mod world map.
I have a question about technocracy, what does "can build science more efficiently" mean?
Also, right now, representation civic seems a better option for research than technocracy.
What about representation giving +4 culture per specialist and technocracy +4 science per specialist?

I don't usually sign up for forums, but I would like to tell you that this is the best mod I've played for Civilization IV. Cheers! :)
The future era is a bit glum though, and the blue-ness of the cites looks awkward. Absolutely everything else about this mod is great.

P.S. I really enjoy the music for the Hawai'ian nation, is it Israel Kamakawiwo'ole? It made me laugh upon hearing it for their national song.
Do you perchance know what the song is named?

It's not the only option, but it makes a big difference. You can also play on lower graphic settings and a smaller map size. Size wise, if you re-downloaded 3.5 is around the same as 3.2. It MAFS because it's a big mod. Truth be told I wouldn't recommend large maps. Switching to standard will make a big difference. Otherwise there's nothing to be done as that's just how big mods work with Civ.

Helps with MAFS if you have a computer capable of doing it.

It's also possible to start playing with animated leaders and switch over to static later on in the game. Installing either pack does not break saves. You can also mix and match, animated leaders and static movies. The animated movies are another 250 MBs adding to stuff.

Alternatively, you can always revert back to the previous version of Thomas' Was (3.1b)--there's a link to where it's hosted on the download page.

Are you unzipping the file correctly. Secondly, are you trying to load it from the main menu -> Advanced -> Load Mod.

It must just be a simple step you are overlooking. You don't need any special programs to run it. It's just a matter of downloading and unzipping into the mods directory. It's just hard to troubleshoot because I can't see your file paths obviously.
