BtS WAY to easy???

I have to disagree in my game yesterday I was on continent with 5 AI. Dutch got boxed and he decide to attack the lowest on powergrap and it was me I took Dutch down and what I was really surpised all 4 other nation really out-tech me and they ALL went for rifles before SM or communism. I decide to attack Inca with my macemens I was going backward and my cities weren't so good this's my chance so it was macemens against rifles I was surprised how easily I took him down because I was expecting an suicide but he didn't whip nearly so much what AI usually do.

There's definitely two kind of AI. AI who likes to build units like mad and AI who like to tech like mad. I almost want to take my words back that AI tech too slowly because it really can if wants. It totally sucks if your neighbour is on unit-mode and is protective, cities on hill and if you let tgem build castles too btw what happened in my recent game.

After playing more deity games, I'm really leaning to "BtS is easier" opinion. The AI is better, it has some new tricks, it does cultural victories, but the bonuses nerf and some tactical glitches in it make the game breezy.

Moreover, espionage can be exploited too easily. Same religion, trade routes, stationary add to 95% discount = mad tech stealing.

I think the AI is better at warfare, but now warfare is not as necessary because with the bonus nerfs, you can simply outtech them and then take out their masses of obsolete units with superior ones.

I think Blake was in warlords mentality when he made the changes, which are good based on that, but he didn't realize he made a different scenario altogether when he cut back the bonuses.

I think the biggest problem is that the city governor is bugged, bugged at choosing tiles, bugged at asigning specialists.

I have to go and check my cities one by one almost every turn, to keep things they way they should be, this was not the case in warlords.

The AI cannot correct the city governor obviously!

I don't see BTS deity as being much easier if any - I've been wiped off the map by mass knights/macemen twice now while trying to skip to liberalism or rifling.

If you make it to rifling, sure, it's more likely that there will be someone backwards to take over, but warfare before that point has become a nightmare. Even axe rushes are not easy to get away with anymore.

Those are exactly my thoughts, you're doing fine if you make it to Rifles. So, many things can go wrong currently. Get boxed by one of the warmongers game over, protective longbow no way you can do anything and basically don't try to do anything if you have less than 3 cities. They have to stop AI making so many units I don't know about Espionage slider. I don't want to even think what Deity is like when AI start with two settlers.

Right now I'm playing a game with Augustus. After conquering Joao I'm sandwitched between Boudica and Monty. I'll get back to you if I make it to Rifles :)

'm having so much problems with the start like no tomorrow. Like in my last game ended about 1 min ago I started with two cities with 2 seafood, after grannies and barracks I started to make axes and whipped most my citizen, I had probably about 15 axemens I captured one hill city from Justine I think 3 archers and 1 holkan then proceed to Capital but I couldn't capture it, It was on hill and walls. I think there's was 4 archeries and 2 holkan.

Man, copper and two amazing cities for whipping and I couldn't do it.

I can't speak to deity but one problem I've run into a couple of times on immortal is being boxed in and then the only expansion target or it's best friend gets the AP.

I've got the religion almost everywhere.

Haven't figured out how to deal with that one.

Still domination is easier. Before one lost war could destroy our dream to achieve domination.

Besides now player has a choice what to do with a GP. Earlier lightbulbing was way to go. Now I prefer constructing academies and assigning specialists.

3rd. I assume that difficult start (from two directions jungle) should not discourage player to quit as it was earlier. You have time to reach IW on the way to Alpha.

edit. 4th there is greater chance to complete wonder. All these points point that BtS balanced some things. Still expansive sucks, but at my freetime I'll try to mod it: water tiles +1 hammer (no more bons) ...

So no thank you. BtS is ok.

i don't know. recently i've been thinking that the +3 health made expansive good and i just didn't appreciate it enough. the +2 health is "ok" but kind of subpar to other traits. 3 health though...that is appealing when combined with hereditary rule earlier on...

The health bonus is nice, but it was the 50% worker production bonus that made expansive really good. I just don't understand why they nerfed the worker bonus in BtS. Maybe a multiplayer thing. In single player expansive dropped back to being a kind of weak trait.

Worker bonus is great, granary bonus too, but it's not very interesting trait. Not much synergy. I've just put Maoi Statue in a city, which works about 13-14 water tiles and this city is definitely too weak to put there Military Academy. About comb prod bonus + financial you are correct, but my intention was to use this new trait in some high level games (depends on skills). To plant as many coastal cities as possible - you can avoid this way being limited to 4-5 cities (on deity for example)
