BTS Windows 7 Screen Flicker

I recently installed Civ 4 on my mac running Windows 7 x32 in bootcamp and it worked fine, except for an annoying screen flicker that I was able to correct by modifying the Civ 4 config file.

I've installed Beyond the Sword, which works fine, except for the same annoying screen flickering, only this time, I can't seem to get it to run in windowed mode. I've gone to "options" and "graphics" and there is no button for "fullscreen" (my boyfriend also runs BTS on Vista and he has the button available on his computer). Anyway, I tried to modify the config file again, but it won't run in windowed mode (tried both 0 and "ask"). I'm pretty sure I've got the right file since I changed my user name alias and Beyond the Sword does recognize that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

Well, the line was the fullscreen 0/1/ask line, but it turns out that there was actually a button for it in graphics options, only I didn't recognize it because it was prefixed by the letters TXT_KEY and in all caps.

Unfortunately, I got really into a game before I realized that I couldn't change civics.

I've been through these forums and others and nothing that others have suggested really seems to work for me. I updated my video drivers and checked the XML file for "?/" and "</" but there were no "?/"s to change. I did try installing the 3.19 patch before playing BTS from Fireaxis' website, and the installer crashed both times I tried it, but I don't know if that affected it or not.

did you install the game with administrator rights? (this is vista, right?)

It's Windows 7 x32 and I think so. It says "administrator" next to my name when I check users and I'm the only user on this computer anyway, so I don't know how I wouldn't be an administrator.

sorry about this - for some reason I had vista in mind and did not reread the thread title
anyways: in 7 its the same: programs don't always have administrator privileges - did you right click on the installer and choose run as administrator? if not: I would uninstall and reinstall the whole thing making sure all installers and patches run as administrator.

Well, I uninstalled everything and deleted every file, as some of the other threads here have recommended. I also changed my format to "UK English" and my location to the UK as recommended by another thread on the subject. After all of this, I restarted and reinstalled. I forgot to play it the first time as administrator, but this seemed to do the trick nonetheless.

So, for anyone else reading in the US who bought a downloadable version of BTS that won't let them change civics and has "TXT_KEY" scattered throughout the menus, try changing your format (under languages) to UK English and delete all your files after uninstalling - even the ones in the hidden AppData folder and in MyDocuments.
