BUG Hunting

ok - here is the current state of play ...
  • we played a few sets with a clean install of BUG v3.0 and didn't get any CTD when playing vanilla BtS
  • someone (rolo?) mentioned that it was possible to install BUG over the top of an older version of BUG and that this wouldn't delete old files
  • I and mystyfly played 2 short sets (5 turns) - a set that I had previously played with a clean BUG v3.0 and we both generated CTDs when playing with BtS vanilla (yes, mystyfly - your last set of saves do cause the CTD)

I'm declaring this bug found (ie the cause of it). We cannot remove said file, but we are going to add a pop-up that will alert people to the problem if we find the file in question in their BUG install.

The aim of this SG has been met, we won, they lost  :band:

Thanks to liq and myst for your help.

:bump:
unzip and put the xml file in this directory ... \CustomAssets\XML\interface (and start the game if you've already got it running)

Then play a set and upload your files. This is the (potentially) infamous simcutie color file.
Question for you Ruff! If I load this XML file into my custom assests, will I then be able to look at the in-game log? Or does it require the complete BUG mod to be loaded as well?

I gather from your comments in this thread that just having this file loaded will cause bad things to happen. What I'd like to be able to do is to have a look at the in-game log at the start of my set, then get rid of this file before actually playing my turns. You think it might be doable?

I don't know about Evil File w/o BUG altough I think it would work there, otherwise it would be more widely known that that simcutie is Evil.
Also from my experience, BUG + simcutie doesn't break the log for you as I had it installed unconsciously and never had problems with my SP games.

I believe unless you save the game the log isn't broken.

if you have a corrupted log (caused by the game writing a message to the log file but pulling a color from beyond 127 (the number of colors in the normal file) then (I expect that) you will have problems if you don't have simcutie file loaded. If you load simcutie - it should be ok (cross fingers). This occurs even if you use a standard color because (as I understand it), the simcutie colors are all mixed up - new colors in between old ones.
