Bug: "Loadwondermovie" window

So the other day I began to get annoyed with the CTD every two turns, so I downloaded 1.52 and the newest graphics drivers.

Now I load the game, and as soon as the turn starts, I get an ingame window saying 'loadwondermovie', that does nothing, that I cannot close, and that I cannot ignroe to do other actions. My game was at least vaguely 'functional' before I supposedly patched it.

Anyone had this bug and know a workaround that doesn't involve turning off movies? If I need to kill half the options in the game I'm gonna say to hell with it and go back to playing BF2 until Firaxis gets off their ass and releases a patch that actually fixes my game.

This is new.
The easiest thing is to try clearing your cache. The default location is C:\Documents and Settings\<your logon id>\Application Data\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization IV\Cache. This is NOT the My Document\My Games folder you see on your desktop or Start menu. Deleting the \cache folder is fine; the game will recreate it on your next run if needed.
Short of that working, I'd recommend an uninstall of the game, a clean reinstall, and a freshly applied 1.52 patch (for many folks, 1.52 helped a great deal).

If that doesn't work, the patience you suggest regarding a substantial patch may be all that's left, assuming you've done all the normal driver, directx, etc., updates. Go kill bad guys in BF2 and report this in the Civ4 - Bug Reports forum.
