I'm still having a problem with my version.

I'm not sure if it's something with the game or the computer, but whenever I start a new game, it says I have been defeated.

-I have got the right version and installed it properly
-I have cleared my custom assets folder
-I have cleared my cache
-The latest patch is installed

I have the initial autosave if that helps (I'm starting with the Chinese)

yes that save show the message indeed, but i can't see the reason. There must me some kind of conflict. Do you always delete the old version before installing new?

I didnt on my first try at installing it but after that, i deleted the old version and installed it clean.

It probably is a conflict as the vanilla version works just fine.

I'll try reinstalling the game.

edit: I fixed it now, apparantly I needed to copy the files into the my documents/my games/warlords/mods folder as well as the other one
