Hi everyone,
I'll try to be quick.
I haven't bothered reading all the threads about it but i noticed I wasn't the only one to experiment the frustration of not being able to enjoy the game completely, though filling way over the minimum specs required.
I must admit that compared to others, my problem was minor : I like playing on huge maps, with all civs, and since i "only" have 512 MB on my laptop, the game is a "bit" slow (up to several minutes) after 3 or 4 hours of gaming, especially in modern times. That never happened to me on Civ 3 on another laptop which would match proportionnaly the requirements.
I worried it would annoy me on online gaming. I also worried about the process that wouldn't stop after I shut the game.
Since no good solution/patch/tip seemed to come up, I tried to fix it myself, like always. I lowered details, graphics, tried some stuff, but it didn't really get better. So it was late at night, and i wondered, heck, let's try this thing I read somewhere about changing the balance between performance and graphic render in some system options, and let's let Windows manage the size of the file linked to virtual memory or something (sorry, my english ain't that technical)... The system then needed to reboot.
The problem is that it never rebooted. I am a specialist in recovering data but I never saw that, especially after a genuine action like this !!!
No soft-repairing possible. I get incoherent messages and I have to force electrically the shutdown when i need to reboot.
I am now trying to make backups of 60 gigs of work, studies, mails, passwords, etc., not to mention my thrilling savegame of last night.
I cancelled an important meeting this morning, and surely have already lost many days of work big time.
Please don't try the same system-tip i read somewhere.
Congrats Firaxis & Microsoft.
