Hi all!

I've been playing this mod for a while now and have seen it grow and change to something truly unique in the modding scene at large (not just Civ IV).

I've recently started writing a blog, Odin Gaming, which largely concerns modding for strategy and simulation games. I finally got around to writing a feature for Caveman 2 Cosmos, which you may all be interested in reading.

As part of the process for writing this post was a chat with Thunderbrd. He and all of you working on C2C have done such an amazing job. Thanks for all the effort you put into this project - I, and many others, are hugely appreciative.

Keep it up!

Thanks for the info! I'm aware of the SVN but wanted to provide an "easy-install" experience for those unfamiliar with the mod. I'll update the mod with a note that such a thing exists, though, for anyone who's interested.

Also from my personal experience, V36 is more stable than v37. There is over a year's worth of changes between the two versions, and a half a year or more between v37 and the SVN. There's changes and edits that occur almost on a daily basis to give you an idea how evolving this mod is.

Thanks for the input guys. I've updated the installation instructions in the post to point readers to the SVN, should they want it.

Thank you!

:)

Yeah, there were some bonehead things we let happen with v37's release due to the rush to get it there in time for Christmas. I tried to get us to package a v36.5 before we started getting into new content but the ship has sailed and it's probably best to just get the SVN version now.

Thanks again Ash! By all means, you are more than welcome to comment anywhere on the forums and add your own 2 cents into the design process considerations at any time!

I may do just that! Although you might have to make do with my 1.5 pence.

Wow! Me and Dancing Houskuld don't even get mentioned once in the article. I mean it was the 3 of us (StrategyOnly, Dancing Houskuld and I) that started Caveman2Cosmos. In fact I was the one who first came up with the name "Cavemen to Cosmos" in which StrategyOnly said he though it would sound better with the name "Caveman" instead of "Cavemen".

But whatever I am glad it is getting recognition.

Sorry mate, no harm intended. There was an awful lot of information to take in and I must have misread some of Thunderbrd's opening remarks. I've gone back and checked and, sure enough, he did give you all proper attribution. I've added a little bit to the post to make sure you guys get the recognition you deserve.

As I mentioned in another thread here, I'd be more than happy to hear from anyone who'd care to talk more about C2C and publish more stuff in the future.

Thanks. C2C has been a bit of a puzzle-like mod where different modders contribute different things. And then together we improve and work in synergy to make them better. Such as Dancing Houskuld's animal hunting I helped him diversify the types of animals by providing him more models from ZT2. Or my idea of Culture wonders was improved upon by those that came after me. The huge amount of buildings in the mod I spent years working on and then those later i helped them learn how to make buildings and then they carried the torch.

Thunderbird was one of those talented modders who started out with humble beginnings but over time has become the new leader of the mod. When I left to peruse modding other games (ex. Hydrocraft for Project Zomboid) he was the only one I trusted who would continue my visions through the various projects I pushed for in C2C such as properties, alternate timelines, goods vs resources and so on.

Likewise he has developed his own brand of features that I love so much like his stealth, unit size, unit numbers and upcoming plagues and such. I am so proud of the work that has been done in the 2 years I was gone. The various art improvements, balance issues, and overall awesomenss!!

As I have said more recently I would like to get back to modding C2C and I even did for about a month before my mom went to the hospital (and 3 weeks after passed away). So I am still in a state of mourning and am evaluating where I want to go from here.

At any rate thanks for posting that article. Its been a while since I have seen a review for C2C since many moved onto Civ5, Beyond Earth and then Civ6. But to me Caveman2Cosmos will always be the best Civilization game out there (unless we make our own Caveman2Cosmos Indie Game someday).

Terribly sorry to hear about your mum. My condolences.

I'm inclined to agree with you regarding C2C as the best Civ game - there really isn't any comparison! I'll certainly be checking in here for years to come. I'm glad I've been a little more active and got in touch with you guys; I've been lurking for so long already!

@Hydro: while I most certainly did make it clear about not only your role in the forming of the mod, as well as DH's and made clear what other strong contributions have shaped the mod, I would strongly urge you to take Ash (Eruditio) up on this offer to discuss various pet projects.

I may eventually ask for deeper discussion regarding some of the combat mod stuff myself so as to give him some more material with some regularity. And I definitely will be turning to Odin Gaming to help get the word out about big projects as they manifest.

That really was a great article, but you do deserve some time in the sun discussing some of your contributions as well.

Funny... I even mentioned you were the one to come up with the most excellent name of the mod. Great name btw... one of the best names it could have ever been given. That's not to be underestimated... I just watched the movie "The Founder" the other day. They made a very interesting point about what's in a name.

But your contributions have been far and wide here so yeah, it can't be understated how much of the mod is yours by design and effort. That goes for DH too! And Sparth and Koshling and AIAndy and Alberts2 and Toffer and Joseph and Azure and so many more over the years!

@Everyone: Do we really have that few people using twitter out there??? We need some retweets y'all!

Never touch the stuff. And I don't have a but a basic cell phone and the wife made me take it! :p My brother and sisters all get on their "phones" and send pic texts and such and all I get is gibberish. I told them to leave me of the "list" for that kind of stuff. Snail Mail me a picture and write me a letter. Means more that way.

Well... we've all been some progress-resistant fellows here haven't we? It took me til last year to get anything more than a flip-phone myself. If it weren't for work forcing me to learn Twitter I'd never have gotten into it either.

Facebook is for grandparents to show off their grand kids and other people my age who want to brag about their latest trip overseas. It is not for the young any more:lol:
