I haven't seen it in game, but will probably change it when I see how bad it looks. ^^
Feel free to change the flag color on the animal civilization if that will help you.

Note: We'd have to make extensive python changes to enable us to use something other than the barbarian leader for all NPC players such as these new animals. It would be good to do eventually but for now it's useful to have the barbarian leader on those.

Looks like Portugal's Old flag. Different at 1st cause we're all used to the Black&White Barb flag. It's okay.

No offense SO but I hope Toffer Doesn't pick an icon from that site. :p :lol:

There's some good base icons for promos there though! And some of them look like they'd be good. I don't dislike the current flag that much but it helps I know what I'm looking at. It really squeezes the image on the x plane unfortunately.

Again, this is the first time I see it myself (in your picture); it will be refined, after I'm done with the animal XML stuff. 1-2 days.

For both the aggressive and passive animals I imagined the flag would be black when I designed the textures. The flag color is not controlled by the textures but rather by whatever xml that controls team-color.

In this post I showed the textures I made for the flags.
I thought they would work better than they did.

Yeah i know flags can be tricky sometimes, i used to do them, but i am not good at background textures and shaders at all, i am not trying to t-ee u off, i am just pointing out a layering problem, is all, but again thx for even trying, its better than some people can say, lol, Have a good day, and remember as i always say, "Just Have Fun."

What is that btn for the flag of the animals now, looks horrible, dark green background and orange no offense but yuck??

Perhaps it would work better with only teeth and no eyes.... or the complete opposite, only eyes...?

Yup all animals are on the wrong team, it's inverted.

Passive animals are team 41 and aggressive animals are team 42

Also, regarding color... keep in mind that the flag base color is also the color of the dots as they show on the map. Thus, if they are black, as barbs are, they will show up like barbs on minimaps.
 
Speaking of Black and related to barbs, would someone Please change the Maori name color for the List of Empires in lower left of main screen.

When you are exploring the map and there is the Fog of undiscovered tileswhich is black you can not read the Maori in the list.

Plus their Empire color is also Black and so their Cultural border color is Black too. All bad when Barbs are around. And now animals too?

How about charcoal grey instead of black? The 'face' does look cool, how does bright red work with it?

Instead of the green sun and wheat stalks, how about a deer silhouette?

The third group could be a medium/light gray, perhaps with black horns or tusks?

I think it would be less confusing if all NPC teams were shown as black dots on the minimap, using any other color would make it likely to be color overlap with the proper civs. Black dot means independent (always at war team).
I could use Forestgreen color for the three animal teams though, but Neanderthal should be black just like barbarians.

I will experiment a bit more with flag art, there seems to be a lot of factors playing in.
