Rust red would be better IMO, but I suppose that depends on the deserts you go through. Can you make the normal deserts have the light tan color of the dunes? I don't like how they have a cartoonish cheeto dust orange.

Come to Australia or go to MarsDefinitely not! That would look far uglier than the current deserts IMO. I hath never seen a red desert in my life!
Somalia, Arabic peninsula, Australia, Nevada, Wyoming, are a few places where one can find red deserts, it is not as uncommon as you think, though the majority of deserts are greyer/browner/colorless places.
No, the point is that the terrain graphics should be distinct, not that they should represent an average aesthetic from the RL planet Tellus. But that's the point. They are not as common as more tan deserts. Unless a new type of desert tile is made then the color should represent the normal and not the exception.
I can desaturated it some, but it shouldn't have the same colour as the dunes, we want all terrains to be distinct enough to see what it is at a glance even when zoomed far out.
I agree that it is a bit too much atm.
We have to be a little restrained to some extent with custom unit skins because if we go overboard with it we'll rapidly run out of memory for the mod. There's a lot of units and that's a heavy thing. That said, there are more units planned and if you're willing to sort out how to get new models with new textures into the game, we could do a lot to improve things!I would like to offer a suggestion / and I would be willing to help make the textures for it too, send me files and I can Photoshop them.... and also clearly state I love the mod. If there is an easy way to bump out models for this game, then tell me! (I have maya 2019)
That being said, I have some pretty bad OCD issues, particularly on issues of colors and standardization. Would it be at all possible to make the "modern" area units more color coordinated properly... right now the textures for the units seem to be pretty random for most civilizations. I think China and Mongolia are the only two that even come close to what I am talking about in terms of unit consistence... like all the infantry type units get the same uniform, all the tanks, APC's, armored units for one faction have the same paint scheme... (by area)?
Lastly, I know there are a ton of unit models out there, are there any plans to add more faction specific units to the game? Right now it feels like that process kinda started then stopped. Like China, has a soviet paint job T-34 for a med tank, but an American paint job M-26 for a heavy tank? Should be an IS-2 with soviet paint. Same logic applies to aircraft. Like China gets a Mig-21 as a fight, there bomber is an American B-52 (and I know that the proper paint job and model for an H-6 is already available for Civ 4). I think Realism Invictus tries to do what I am talking about - but C2C just has way more content and is more fun to play.
Saw you on discord. Here's the thing... I'm not saying I personally know all those steps myself. I know how to design the xml of a unit but when it comes to the modelling, I have not yet taken the time to research how to get it all in place. Hydro has done a unit from scratch. You'd see him on the discord channel in an addressable manner. I think Toffer might have more knowhow there too. I used to, long ago, do some 3d modelling so I know I CAN figure it out - but I've been focused on other details since being here.I was worried you might say that. We had the same issue in Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds lol... (I worked on the Expanding Fronts Mod for that game).
Sure, I have been playing civ 4 for many years. I have worked on mods for Star Wars Empire at war, so I know something of the process on getting a model set for a game, textured, and exported. If you want to add me on discord and show me the steps we can chat... I just hope its not like EAW... where if you want to add a box with 3 cylinders to the game it takes 67 hours of work.... and it was NOT fun lol
davidbissig #9993 is my discord.
@DrD_AVEL are you good at 3d graphics?https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/questions-and-picture-requests.626751/page-2 also consider implementing these city graphics into the game. I thought this would be the place to post this to. if not I am sorry.
yes I understand that but I meant to use those 2d city graphics as a reference or frame work and then update or switch those old 2d graphics to 3d city grapihics for civ 4 C2C, you see what I mean now? sorry I hope I made sense

While it can't be done like he wanted, someone could add artstyles for future eras, just like for example Chinese and Greek cities look differently while being in same era.I hope you won't take this as rebuke as I can imagine asking the same thing as you when I was a lot younger, so I just want to help you understand as you clearly do not:
This is a LOT of work for someone to do to implement your idea of what the graphics should look like. That is never going to happen. If you want the city graphics to look like this you would need to do it yourself. If someone else is going to spend days of their own time to do it (or more), they will also want to implement their own creative vision of what the cities should look like. No one is going to be motivated to implement someone elses vision, unless they are being paid for it.

EDIT: On Discord he said, that he is taking break, I'm not sure if Kation or Toffer can add city graphics for future eras.
Maybe if they could repeat what ethic city art styles did.
