C2C - New Unit Ideas

This will require AI work. The AI does not understand transport units except for ones that traverse seas and oceans.

Well, we already have the BMP wheeled transport that can carry units... In for a penny, in for a pound I say ;)

I think someone has made the AI understand land transports already. Dune Wars uses it I think.

Actually, FFH2 and it's mod-mods have the ranger unit that can carry a Hawk. Although in that case, it's more like an Aircraft carrier with the bird operating like a fighter airplane. Always liked that. :)

Good idea there, and correct place to put something like that, nice thinking and thx for trying to help us out here, "we" really appreciate it.

Well, I tried it and I didn't get any responses. I've been playing around with Gmax myself for a bit, and I can get the model for the medevac copter to look right in NifSkope, but now the rotor isn't turning, so all I can see of the copter is a solid gray and black octagon over the copter. Any ideas on how to fix this? I know I'm importing and exporting the animation when I go into the nif file in Gmax.

I have been wanting to put in the Atlatl since there is a nice model here. However I am unsure what tech it should go under and how it should fall into the unit upgraes sicne we have a Javelineer. In addition i would really like to have a set Javelin type of units in the game, just like how there is a stone spearman vs a spearman. Maybe even have a "Skrimisher" like in "Age of Empires". What do you guys think? How should this type of unit differ from spear or archery units?

Yes I have a model ready to go in just not sure where to put it. I also downloaded the steam punk tank. ;)

The current "flow" of unit upgrades in the prehistoric era seems to be one of unspecilaisation. So there is no clear upgrade path like there used to be.

Here ares some ideas ...

Changes in RED

Archery
Stone Thrower (STR 1) -> Slinger (STR 2) -> Atlatl (STR 4) -> Archer (STR 5) -> Longbowman (STR 8) -> Musketman (STR 20)

Polearms
Clubman (STR 2) -> Stone Spearman (STR 3) -> Atlatl (STR 4) -> Spearman (STR 5) -> Pikeman (STR 6) -> Heavy Pikeman (STR 9) -> Musketman (STR 20)

Javelins
Clubman (STR 2) -> Stone Spearman (STR 3) -> Atlatl (STR 4) -> Javlineer (STR 5) -> Skirmisher (STR 6) -> Elite Skirmisher (STR 8) -> Musketman (STR 20)

So I am thinking that the techs could work like this ...

Atlatl = Spear Fishing or Obsidian Weapons (not sure which fits better)
Javelineer = Copper Working AND Hunting (just like spearman)
Skirmisher = Siege Warfare (just like pikeman)
Elite Skirmisher = Armor Crafting (just like heavy pikeman)

An then have them have stats like ...

  • +50% vs Animals
  • +50% vs Calvary Archers (Horse Archer, Crossbow Archer, Camel Archer, Deer Archer, Giraffe Archer, Zebra Archer, Ballista Elephant, Ballista Mammoth, Comanche Horse Archer, Keshik, Attila the Hun)
  • +25% vs Archery
  • -50% vs Melee

So they are like string vs mounted archers and archers but extremely weak vs melee. Note that other units have different strengths such as ...

Spears/Pike = Good vs Mounted
Axes = Good vs Melee
Swords = Good vs City
Bows = Good City Defense
Crossbows = Good vs Melee

Light Calvary = Good vs Archery
Heavy Calvary = Good Vs Melee
Calvary Archers = Good vs Siege

Horses = Good on Flatland
Camels = Good on Desert (and vs Mounted)
Elephants = Good in Jungle (and vs Mounted)
Mammoths = Good on Polar (and vs Mounted)
Zebra = Good on Savanna (and vs Mounted)

What do you think? And any ideas on what model to use for a Skirmisher or Elite Skirmisher unit?

Horses = Good on Flatland
Camels = Good on Desert (and vs Mounted)
Elephants = Good in Jungle (and vs Mounted)
Mammoths = Good on Polar (and vs Mounted)
Zebra = Good on Savanna (and vs Mounted)

I would say do that a bit differently
Would it be possible for instance to give
Horses Bonus vrs elephants/good on temperate planes
Camels bonus on desert/hill
Elephants bonus jungle and make them stronger then other versions
Mammoths good in polar and mountains, stronger then other versions
Zebra good on savanna

Really I see no point in making everything but horses good vrs mounted, I would rather see them all have unique options, also remember that elephants will stop a charge if they smell horse blood (If I remember right that is how a force of cavalry repelled a force of elephant riders)

Isn't the attached the same as what you want for one of the units requested??

Hmm weird. When I looked in civpedia it looked different. I am wondering if since you are playing Egypt if the civ flavor is effecting it. Since I normally pick Roman it defaults a to a European looking swordsman. We need to make sure the model stays as it should no matter what civ you pick.

After looking for icon/buttons in a WWII mod I saw a nice gyrocopter. I am thinking perhaps we should add that as a pre-helicopter unit. What do you guys think?

Couldn't hurt :) Upgrade from Cavalry to Gyro to Helo? Would make the transition a little smoother. The jump from Cav to Helo is pretty big. The last few games have had Cav units sitting around doing nothing while waiting to upgrade since they were outdated as themselves.

He hello,

I m playing the mod for like a year or two now, i love it. Makes the game more complete then the standard bts game.
One question, in the new update v.30 the option in the optionscreen in the beginning the No Barbarians isnt there anymore. Is there a specific reason for it?

Thanks for answering and great job!

Sorry got another question.
When you begin your new turn and a city is ready with a building or whatever you get a scroll down menu, if you want to know how many units there are fortified in your city you must click examine city. Is it possible that when you get the scrolldown menu you can see in a wink of an eye how many units there are fortified?
