C2C - You Tube

I would like to start off by thanking HydromancerX for posting my stuff on this thread, it is much appreciated! Second, I would also like to give you a link to the playlist of the "America" let's play so you have some stuff to update this thread with regarding that let's play.

Playlist: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBWNigEjfgf2_8HvSbVpjlNOxhHToTezH

All the video's up to the time I posted this reply are in there!

Note: I had to restart the let's play at around part 9-10 ish. I have caught back up to where I was and gotten even further than I had before! Which I'm enjoying. I want to show everyone as much as I can!

Kind regards, Vansthebunker

Yeah I have been checking your channel every day. its not bad just a little rushed. Also I think you get confused a a lot. For instance lesser culture is just like producing culture but less. You can also produce research and money like in vanilla Civ.

In addition the Spear Fishing probably could help you city because its on a river. You don't need an ocean to get benefits from it. You are also missing out on all the animal myths which could be boosting your research, culture and happiness.

I am surprised you are playing on such a fast speed. And producing 1 unit or tech at a time. If you set up a queue of production in the city or a beeline of techs you could get more with the overflow.

Lastly it almost seems like you do not like playing it or are being forced to. If you don't like the mod don't play it. I would hate to see you suffering because you were forced to play it.

The problem with picking a slower speed of the game is that it would take a HECK of a longer time to play than what I'm doing right now, I put that into consideration when I started this let's play. I want to show off as much as I possibly can in the most concise way possible. Compared to playing the same game on a stream? Yes I would have picked a much slower game speed and more options. Although that may be much for fun for the audience. This is more like a quick playthrough highlighting key points and so on. Kind of like a PowerPoint.

I also appreciate the pointers! I like to include the audience into the experience as much as I possibly can. Feel free to jump in the comments section if you have anything to point out such as things I might be missing out on or doing wrong. I always read all of my comments, regardless of wether I can respond to them or not. Although I don't mind chatting with others on Civ fanatics either. It's kind of the same system of feedback really.

Also, it's not that I'm not enjoying the mod, ever since I was introduced to it I have enjoyed it throughly. Perhaps it was the let's play model that kind of threw everyone off. I mean in any way it might have not been the best model for this type of mod, and I can completely understand that.

I also apologise for any confusion that might have arisen from this.

Thanks Hydro for posting a link to my lets play of this wonderful wonderful mod. Right now though i haven't gotten a new video uploaded because of some personal issues, but other than that im good. So feel free to check back often for any new videos from me, though it might be a bit because i like to record about five or six videos and then upload them at once. Chow ^^

Use Hypercam, its free and you can record longer than 10 minutes.

@RogueJade

You videos were rather strange in that you would edit and skip while rambling. Also you stayed on like "press enter for next turn" for a very long time. While it totally up to you what you talk about in your videos you may want to just talk about the game or even be quiet between turns so when editing it doesn't sound like your are being cut off all the time.

I see lots of potential in your videos, I just felt weird hearing about your girlfriend, job and other personal information. I think you even went on a tangent about something you did not like in the game but then it got cut off so I don't know what your complaint was. We do listen to these Lets Plays so if you have something you would like us to improve upon it can be a good way to show it. Of course the bugs section is the best way to report stuff since not all the modders watch these videos.

Haha, I am Takuma on Youtube. I just found this thread, was going to mention myself but I guess you guys found me first! xD

Funnily enough, Grimith was the one that inspired me to start my own let's play. I think I overestimated my computer's capability though... the long turn times probably limit the excitement of my videos. I did record more over the 3-day weekend, but haven't uploaded those yet.

Thanks for pointing me out though :D

You need to use the current SVN then, things are waaay faster there and with lately alberts2 squashing alot of little bugs, you can play over 600 turns without a CTD.:):) But the main thing is Koshlings, Graphic Setting he did before he went on hiatus.

Hm, I'm using an SVN from about 2 weeks ago, so I don't think that would change too much. I think I was just overzealous in picking an Enormous map with 20 Civs. I have pretty good hardware, but apparently not good enough. :P I tend to forget that mods, by their nature, are only as good as the base code, and Civ 4 just doesn't account for the extra hardware capabilities that well. I have the same issue playing my heavily modded Oblivion game.

The other issue is that I decided to pick the Eternity game speed, because I wanted to get a good experience with the units in each era. Not bad in theory, but clicking through 20 turns to tech something or build a unit is pretty tedious. Hopefully it will get better when there's more to do in each turn. In case I start over though, recommendations on map size / game speed?

BTW, uploading a couple more videos now :)

If you want to have a "fun" time, then may i suggest no larger than a "Large" map, with 7 civs. You will be surprised at how much the civs will kick your butt then. And the main thing, have something to do EACH turn after Classical Era.

@Singularity125

I am sorry to say but your recent videos are painful to watch due to slow turn times. I think you would be much happier with a faster speed and smaller map. I know that means rediscovering techs, but you could get back to where you are now in say 2 or 3 videos rather than 6 or 7. I mean your still in the early prehistoric. Its not too late to start over.

I certainly considered that possibility. The end of the last video I recorded (not uploaded yet) had me discover a barbarian doomstack... which, if it decides to attack my city, would probably make the decision for me :crazyeye:

What speed/map size do you recommend if I were to start over? For reference, I have 8 GB of ram, an 8-core AMD processor (specifically: this) and the GeForce GTX 660, with 3 GB of Vram. You can see why I might have assumed my computer could handle the load :p

Snail for speed for sure and maybe Huge (default 11 civs) or Giant (default 13 civs) sized.

If you start in old world with around 12 civs should should be ok. Things like revolutions and barbarians making new civs can fill in the gaps later. Its a good combo since the civs in the new worlds start out later but still get to become new civs. Thus you can have a Spanish vs Aztec type of encounters in the Age of Exploration.

Note this is all for PW2f map, which I think you already picked.

And before others argue for other setting I just wanted to say that these are my own recommended setting that I prefer to play as and I have personally had very good results in my game.

I also think from a Let's Play type of game that it will make a more interesting game since you will be close enough to other civs in the start to simulate old world rivals, and then get a chance to expand over the oceans once Astronomy is unlocked.

I also think that the start as minor civs and culturally inked starts are important. Minor civ allows everyone to explore the old world freely until writing. It also keeps you on your toes. The culturally linked starts is good because the regional cultures are usually close by so to get more exotic cultures in your civ you will have to explore and take over lands farther away. Oh and Assimilation is important if you actually want to GET those regional cultures.

Good luck on your new game! Also don't forget to update your SVN often. ;)
