Hi Guys, I have completed a mod that lets you play as Australia in Civ III Conquests. Since this is my first attempt at a mod, I have made it using files available on these forums rather than creating any new ones. I'll credit what I've taken from others in this thread. Apologies to anyone who didn't know I was using their stuff.

Also, since it's my first attempt, there may be problems with the mod. I have tested it in debug mode and by playing a few games, but obviously if there are any problems they will probably come out in further testing. If anyone does find any, feel free to let me know in here and I will attempt to fix them.

DETAILS:

Australia replaces Sumeria in the mod. The Australians are Scientific and Agricultural, and as such start with Bronze Working and Pottery. Their Leader is Prime Minister Menzies

Australians build the Light Horse instead of Cavalry. The Light Horse are capable of fighting as Cavalry or entrenched infantry, and as such are Effective on both Offense and Defence.

Light Horse:

Cost: 80 Shields
Stats: 6/5/3
Requires: Military Tradition, Horses, Saltpeter.
Upgrades to Air Cavalry
May be built by Australia only, starts a golden age.

Air Cavalry:

With the advent of tanks and machine guns, traditional Mounted Infantry became obsolete on the modern battlefield. The invention of the helicopter and the turbine engine saw traditional Cavalry divisions retrained to fight from helicopters. The Bell UH-1 Iroquois, better known as the "Huey", was utilised heavily in the vietnam war to provide firepower and deliver troops deep behind enemy lines.

Air Cavalry:

Land Unit
Cost: 110 Shields
Stats: 12/5/2
Treats all terrain as roads.
Requires: Advanced Flight, Oil, Rubber.
Any civ can build air cavalry.

All Cavalry units and Unique Units based on Cavalry may upgrade to Air Cavalry.

For the Australian City List, I used LordAzrael's city list from his original Australians mod. Details available here.

Leaders have been completely changed.

Australian Military Leaders:

1. Breaker Morant (Boer War light horseman, first Imperial commander to utilise guerilla tactics)
2. John Monash (Father of combined arms)
3. Weary Dunlop (Australian army surgeon who saved the lives of many soldiers in WWII)
4. Peter Cosgrove (Current commander of the Australian defence forces and leader of the INTERFET coalition in East Timor)

Australian Scientific Leaders:

1. Hugh McKay (inventor of the combine harvester)
2. Douglas Mawson (Antarctic Explorer)
3. Mark Oliphant (Nuclear Physicist)
4. Victor Chang (Heart Transplant Pioneer)

Since the mod includes all the files, including the leaderhead animations for Menzies, it is too large to post here. You can download it from my personal webspace. Download

You'll need winrar to extract it. Extract it to /Civ3/Conquests/Conquests/. To play the mod, go into the Conquests menu in Civ 3, and select Australia. This way it won't stuff up the rest of your game if it doesn't work properly for some reason.

Pictures of the new stuff to come...

R8XFT made the excellent leaderhead that i've used:

Bloody Hell. No matter what i try, I can't seem to upload this file anywhere. If you want the mod, contact me on Windows Messenger and I'll send it to you over that. My account is ydraw@hotmail.com

It'd be nice to see this mod in action - if the filesize is above 3MB (and I know it is 'cos my leaderhead is well above that size ;) ), then you need to PM Thunderfall for FTP access to the Civfanatics server.

Thanks for using my leaderhead BTW, it's great to see it's getting some action :goodjob: !

Yeh...it would. But I emailed this guy months ago asking to find a solution but he never once got back to me. Pah. Cheers and good work R8XFT.

Not sure if I'm bumping ... hope not ...

Thought of a small wonder ... call it 'Chinese Opera' or something like that ... it would produce a worker unit ... this would symbolise the chinese workers that came to Australia and build railways, market gardens, dug for gold during gold rush.
