C3C PBEM: "Smuts" - the Boer War scenario-based PBEM

Fighting back at Kimberley: All the Boers were killed, but lost two infantry. I didn't capture the cannons because they have defense values, so they have to be killed? Those Howitzers are great, but the Gatlings are only defensive bombard? That makes sense I guess..

The Zulu destroyed a road.
 
England killed all the cannon regiments near Kimberley without losses. Also took out the horse that kept snooping around.

Zulu killed the two Boer cavalry that were approaching, but lost an impi and a rifle rebel.

I don't understand it, the Zulu has lost population twice in a row now due to disease. But there's no flood plain or swamp nearby, so what's going on?

The same thing happened to the English in the capital on the first turn even though there's nothing indicating health hazards.

Also, India says it's not connected as a trade route even though it has a harbour.. and I have gems as luxuries even though I don't seem to have a road to any of them?
 
Plains also have disease. This limits the population increase that becomes so important in most scenarios and represents the usual disease of the time, especially during war-time.

India trade : hm, that's weird ! I will have to check.

Gems : maybe under one of your cities ?
I noticed as well European products still show with the wrong icon in the city screen (silks instead) so that will have to be fixed.

BTW you forget to say you killed 1 cav at least S of De Aar, or am I wrong ??

I'm having some weird problem loading Civ today. I don't understand what the heck happend (I only did some monitor profiling, but disabling that doesn't help).. it loads the splash, then switches resolution (as always) and turns black.. but nothing loads and I can't exit either.

edit - while I remember, the problem with land movement was just the rivers, but the sea movement is still strange. Often it doesn't move as far as predicted, and sometimes the ships don't move even though it's the end of the turn and they have been ordered to move to some point.. so I have to move them manually.
 
Got it working somehow, no idea what's going on..

Captured Perdeberg! The single Boer defender was blasted to smithereens by two Howitzer batteries!

Yes, I killed the cavalry and another unit last turn I think.. lost two natives and an infantry.
 
Good to know. His sacrifice was not in vain !

No real action but some diplo this turn. Germany sides with me again while Africans declare on me...
 
I'm totally dumbfubbled how you landed that stack of cavalry deep into my territory this turn, did you airlift them or something?

Anyway, I killed one of those two commandos, the other got scared away. Oddly, when I looked for it later it seemed to have gone?

Portugal redeclared war on you. Did you piss off the other Africans or did you attack them? I was feeding them gold earlier to keep them pleased because they were so angry..

edit - and I killed one of the cavalry in your stack with an English cavalry.
 
First that's called RoP with an ally. I went from Mafeking to there through German Namibia.

Second : kommandos are invisible, otherwise I would not let them stay so close to you but obvisouly one of your troops at Kimberley could spot them. When it retreated thought it went to far to be spotted.

No I did not attack the other Africans but apparently they had huge stacks of restless and work-free warriors. I asked them to move off my land. Before they agreed but this time it seems they felt confident enough. Both them + the Portuguese is a real problem...
They captured Colesberg !

I captured Prieska from you and destroyed a road. Kimberley is now isolated.
No losses against the British. The Africans proved thougher...
 
Killed a cavalry outside de Aar and a militia in Bloemenburg, siege is on.

What units can see commandos? Btw, I had to research the Boer tech first to get to begin researching commando tech, but I didn't get anything out of the research.. you really need to clear up the tech tree because I have no idea what's going on and what to reseach and not research.

I figured you used the German roads, but it just seemed too far to travel (only four tiles in one turn) so I couldn't seem to get it to count right..

And I sure am glad I'm not at war with those Africans, better the Germans then! :lol:
 
Liberated Colesburg from the stinking beasts and got a leader !
This might have saved (momentarily) our a** as Smuts' army destroyed 2 col infantry companies. Unfortunately on the way they lost time rounding up an explorer party.
No losses, which was unexpected at the beginning.
 
Shot your army into submission as well as the militia in the city.

Captured Prieska and Middleburg (both empty).

Captured Colesburg after killing militia and cavalry. Lost two Bengals.

This game is pretty good too :)
 
Lost a cavalry but killed Bengal lancer and captured Colesburg again, albeit not for long. I must get rid of your fast troops !

Kommando destroyed remaining forces of your cavalry.
 
Recaptured Colesburg, killed cavalry inside as well as two outside. Also killed a militia in Springfontein.

So are you going to fix the tech tree and tell me which are of any use to me? It's a bit annoying not to know if I'm just throwing money out the window..

All the lower part : guerilla and counter-guerilla, land control, population control and psychological warfare all have a use for you (if I am not dead by then) !
