C3C PBEM - WW2 Global

Let's just get the thing started and sort it out as we go. This is really a "trial run" anyway, since this is version 1.0 of the MP version of the Mod, right? So we're bound to find some bugs and unbalanced positions. The sooner we start, the better feedback we can give for improvements.

Will russia and Germany not fighting tho result in them both being incredibly strong with huge& strong armies? for example if they agree not to fight germany could roll through africa and russia through asia,

There was somthing els i was wondering about, as uk on single player i decided to take over saudi arabia and taiwan so i would have a supply line from africa to singapore but seeing as all other countries are AI, would attacking taiwan for example result in spain getting involved in europe?

This looks to be awesome. I'll play France. I'm down to take a beating and fight to the very end.

Yeah, sorry about that. I didn't have internet for over a week. I would have felt bad, but that game was already experiencing major problems beyond my tardy.

But it doesn't look like you'll have to worry Loulong. After carefully reviewing the thread, I see that there are already two other hopefulls lined up before me. Enjoy

Unfortunately I will have to pull out of this PBEM, because the File is just too big. Unfortunately I am still stuck with dial-up, but i thought I would still be able to download it in a few days. I will still watch this game unfold. that means Germany is now free for someone else to play.

Yes, attacking a Neutral country in a PBEM results in the entire Neutral world declaring war, although this is rarely more than an inconvenience.

I'm a bit surprised there hasn't been more interest in joining the PBEM. If we can't find another player soon, one of us may have to take on a second position if we are to get this started.

@ bigbill ... i need to know if you have downloaded the scenario and got it to work properly. I'm pretty sure the rest of you have already done this.

I've got it downloaded, but haven't had a chance to try it. I had problems with a similar scenario and I tried every thing that BigBill and I could think of and still nothing. maybe the new computer will be more co-operative...

just a thought,

buddah said he would play france, i dont think i would be able perform well as germany but im willing to play uk instead, which would mean we have 7

another thought - why dont we ask rocotech to play if we are still short?

I would imagine Rocoteh would be far to busy scenario creating to take part ... certainly I haven't seen him play in any PBEMs yet.

Eric's rules suggestions seem fine to me.

Dazz_G,

Yes, you are right.
95% of my Civ-time goes to scenario-creation.

During spring and summer I also away many days without
Internet-connection.

Rocoteh

Still no takers for the last position.

I'm not sure if Gnarfflinger was expressing an interest in joining so I think this is the way to go ...

If Gnarfflinger is interested then let me know soon. If we haven't heard from him in a few hours then I think we should start the game with just the six of us. BigBill has indicated he wants to switch to the Germans so if I do that, I could start the game with me playing Britain and China ... I will continue to try to find a player for the position though.

The only real problem I see with the above is that it gives the Allies a slight advantage in the Pacific as it means Britain and China would have greater than normal co operation versus the Japs.

I don't really see what else we could do ... if anyone has any objections or alternative suggestions then feel free.

EDIT ... one possible alternative would be for perkins to play China as well as France - that way there is no co operation advantage but, with this being perkins' first PBEM, i'm not sure he would be up for that.

Also, I have everyones email address except bigbill ... if you could let me have it as soon as possible.

I got to chat to Gnarff on MSN ... he is interested in joining the game.

I have emailed him one of my saves which he is going to test later and let us know.

All goes well, we start up tomorrow night with Gnarff as China, if not, then we will start with me as Britain and China, pending finding another player.

If y'all need any position to fill, or a sub, I'm willing.

i would rather be one country personally but if someone hasent took china i am fine with playing it also, i just want to get gameing.

Could someone post me some info about pbem, does everyone make a move and then it send the save to the next person? and is it similatanious moves? if it is how does combat work? i.e if two units move into the same area

@ augurey ... Gnarfflinger is testing his download to see if he can get it running so as to take the last position. However, should he not be able to take part (or should anyone else drop) you will be most welcome.

@ perkins ... When it comes to your turn you will receive the turn file by email ... what I have is a folder called 'PBEM' on my desktop where I save the emailed file to. Then start up Civ and load the save from your desktop folder and play it.

The game mechanics will be pretty much as single player except for Diplo ... say you contact me for a trade, you don't automatically get to see what I have to offer ... what you do is you offer me what you want to offer and hit 'send' ... on my next turn I get to see what you offer and I can then make a return offer and send it to you. On your next turn you then have the opportunity to accept the deal as propossed - this is the only real difference in the way things work.

Once you finish your turn the computer will prompt you to save the file for sending ... I always save it to the desktop folder making sure I have named it with something that will say to me 'this is the turn to send' i.e. don't name it in such a way that when you go into your folder, you can't remember which of the files it is you need to send ;) You then close Civ, open your desktop folder, right click on the appropiate file and select 'send to' and then 'mail recipient' then enter the email address of the next player and off it goes.

Basic House Rules :

So everyone knows where the turn is at, every time you play and send the turn you should log onto this PBEM thread and post along the lines of 'Played and sent' ... this is just usual game etiquete.

Another thing is combat ... this works as normal except the only person who gets to 'see' the combat is the attacker ... it is possible for the defender to lose a stack of units and cities and not know either what happened or who done it. To this end, you MUST note down all combat on your turn and when you post that the game is sent, you would list any combat so everyone knows what happened.

Combat reports could be along the lines of ... '10 French Infantry attacked 4 German Panzers south of Berlin ... all panzers killed for loss of 2 Infantry' , or 'German Heinkel 111 bombers shelled Paris destroying Barracks and damaging defenders' . These are just examples but you probably get the idea.

If you need clarification on anything feel free to ask ... we all had to start the same way in PBEM. I started out in PBEM on a different site and came away not knowing very much but the guys on here are great and will do all they can to help you out.
