@ augurey ... Gnarfflinger is testing his download to see if he can get it running so as to take the last position. However, should he not be able to take part (or should anyone else drop) you will be most welcome.
@ perkins ... When it comes to your turn you will receive the turn file by email ... what I have is a folder called 'PBEM' on my desktop where I save the emailed file to. Then start up Civ and load the save from your desktop folder and play it.
The game mechanics will be pretty much as single player except for Diplo ... say you contact me for a trade, you don't automatically get to see what I have to offer ... what you do is you offer me what you want to offer and hit 'send' ... on my next turn I get to see what you offer and I can then make a return offer and send it to you. On your next turn you then have the opportunity to accept the deal as propossed - this is the only real difference in the way things work.
Once you finish your turn the computer will prompt you to save the file for sending ... I always save it to the desktop folder making sure I have named it with something that will say to me 'this is the turn to send' i.e. don't name it in such a way that when you go into your folder, you can't remember which of the files it is you need to send

You then close Civ, open your desktop folder, right click on the appropiate file and select 'send to' and then 'mail recipient' then enter the email address of the next player and off it goes.
Basic House Rules :
So everyone knows where the turn is at, every time you play and send the turn you should log onto this PBEM thread and post along the lines of 'Played and sent' ... this is just usual game etiquete.
Another thing is combat ... this works as normal except the only person who gets to 'see' the combat is the attacker ... it is possible for the defender to lose a stack of units and cities and not know either what happened or who done it. To this end, you MUST note down all combat on your turn and when you post that the game is sent, you would list any combat so everyone knows what happened.
Combat reports could be along the lines of ... '10 French Infantry attacked 4 German Panzers south of Berlin ... all panzers killed for loss of 2 Infantry' , or 'German Heinkel 111 bombers shelled Paris destroying Barracks and damaging defenders' . These are just examples but you probably get the idea.
If you need clarification on anything feel free to ask ... we all had to start the same way in PBEM. I started out in PBEM on a different site and came away not knowing very much but the guys on here are great and will do all they can to help you out.
