My 40 GB hard drive on my iBook is getting low on free space.

C3C takes up 1.88 GB on my hard drive and I'm trying to figure out how I might be able to delete portions like Conquests or PtW and still have my gameplay be unaffected. Can anyone give me some advice on this?

I would also like to make backups of my saved game files before I try deleting portions of the game. Can anyone point me to where C3C saves its campaigns/saved games?

Thanks - Tony

Unfortunately I do not have an external HD.

Reducing the size of C3C from 1.88 GB to something manageable like less than 1 GB would help me save a great deal of time in my workflow when I import and manipulate photos and photo albums, so the answer to that question is yes.

They're probably saved in the \users\whatever_user_you're_logged_on_as\documents\Civilization 3 Complete\ path. Try searching (File\Find...) for one of the saves to be sure.

The default state of the game only keeps 4 autosaves from your last game. In addition to those you get any manual saves you have created. Autosaves can run to 2 MBytes or so.

Manual saves, if produced in the latest patch version, will be compressed, and only consume a few hundred KBytes each. The pre-patch version makes uncompressed saves, ~2 MBytes each.

To reduce Civ3's saved game space by 900 MBytes you would need to lose 3-400 manual uncompressed saves, or a few thousand compressed ones.

If you want to check, the Conquests saves are in ~/Documents/Civilization 3 Complete/Saves/. If you've also played Play the World there may also be saved games in ~/Documents/Civilization 3 Play the World/Saves/. Autosaves for each game version are in the subdirectories: Autosaves/

Well I've found all my saves and it only totals about 29 MB.

I'm going to take the chance and delete portions of the C3C folder to free up disk space on my HD.

If you delete anything in the main /Art /Text or /Sounds folders the game will fail.

Note that if you run OS X with less than about 10% of the hard drive free you are likely to run into significant problems.
