C3C Scenario/Mod: Rising Sun

I find that I am still getting Sumeria instead of Assyria. Although it shows as Assyria in the menu.
Also, my cities get disease from grassland which seems odd. Civiilopaedia still says disease is from jungle or marsh.
I have installed the latest update.

Well, I've installed and played your mod, and I have to say that I really enjoy it. I've been playing a monarch game as Britian, and it's a huge amount of fun. Having all of australia avalaible virtually unopposed at the start is fun, although hard to defend if you piss of the wrong people.

I'm currently at 1777, and I own most of central europe, having just taken the last european Byzantine city, and connecting down to Jerusalem. I have made some changes to the world map, nothgin significant, just some alteration of the east indies and various other islands.

At any rate, Kudos on a scenario well done. I've enjoyed it throughly. Should you have a little spare time, I'd also love to discuss some things related to scenario creation with you, say over AIM or MSN. just drop me a PM with your names if you want a little chat.

Again, thanks.

Thanks! I am glad you enjoyed the 1200 AD scenario! Britain was one of my favorites as well in that one! Having footholds in western France and Jerusalem their starting position is very flexible. I even spent time optimizing the initial placement of their ships!

I am very curious about the map changes you made. Maybe they can be put into the next version? Please post a screen! I will PM you as well.

kevin2350: There is no Assyria in the Rising Sun scenarios, and (unmodified) Sumeria shows up only in the random map game. Perhaps you had this problem with a different scenario? ;) I can, however, tell you where to check for disease. In the scenario editor choose Rules/Edit/Terrain. You will see the disease box in the lower right corner.

Scrap it for 60 shields. :D Or keep it - i has no upkeep.

The real function, however, is to fix a bug related to the starting locations when the number of starting and bonus units is modified.

Great Scenario Pawel! Playing as the Chinese in the 200 BC Snoopy start. The year is currently 1725 AD (224 turns in) and I am having the exact same problem Bob was having. Researched up to and including Fascism. The problem started when the Scandinavians sneak attacked me and took Rostov. The next turn I took the city back and I got the exact same error message the Bob got. I then reloaded the turn and razed the city. I then attemted to take a Mongolian city and got the same error message. Also, I do not have a WWII file in my extras file in PTW. Reinstalling PTW is not an option because 1) I do not want to give up my game, and 2) I do not have my PTW disk. Any ideas? I was really hoping to go on and conquer the world. Suppose I could go for a conquest victory, huh :)

Hi,
I am glad you like the scenario! And fortunately, the missing PTW units are available even if you don't have the PTW disc! Just download them from the official Infogrames server! It is even perfectly legal. :D

Good luck with World Domination! :goodjob: And consider posting a screen!

Dunedin - Just a word of caution be sure when you download to place the file in the following directory - Civilization III\CIV3PTW\extras\World War II\Art\Units. I take it you may not have CIV3PTW so you will have to create the directory.

Hey Pawel. I'd be willing to test out the new version I have some time on my hands. Who would you like to see?

Hey!
Nice to hear from you again! I think Japan is still the first choice, but any civ would actually be interesting. Right now I am working on beta 2, which will add Portugal and have a new situation in South America. It should be finished by tomorrow, so you may want to wait for that. Or, you could make a quick comparison!

Well looking at the biq I think France is too underpowered they should have another city in Europe. Marsaille perhaps?
Madrid could be added for Spain Seville moved 1 tile East so you could add another Portoguese city to better show it's borders.
Persia is very weak and you could just give it to the Mongols. I think they still had Persia at this poiint perhaps.
Or you could add Tabriz to make the Persians stronger.

BTW Western US and South-East Asia are quite empty.
Perhaps the Sioux could be added? Or for South East Asia you could but the Khmer's or Siam or Annam.

What do you think?

Since most of the map is already covered by cities with minimum overlap, I am reluctant to add more. I think that in the long run more cities in Europe would make things worse rather than better. It is true that France is a little underpowered, but you have to remember that Germany actually represents all the German states, including the Austrian Holy Roman Empire (extending down to northern Italy), and they got Denmark as a bonus (since Scandinavia is somewhat overpowered). Spain, which was incomparably more powerful than France at the time, only has two Iberian cities, and one in southern Italy that was under their control. This is a general problem with Kal-El's map. Europe is too small to fit everything. :)

When it comes to Persia, you are right. They should probably be Mongol. However, I want the Mongol, as well as Arab) Empires to be in decline (this is one of the main things that needs to be tested). It may thus be required to reduce their power even further. And I didn't want to just give Persia and Afghanistan to India...

The reason for the emptiness in western US that I want to have the Americans colonizing the west. While this wasn't empty, there were no cities there. The other option, to put the Americans in a locked war with, say, the Siux, to ensure that they expand in the right direction, seems less appealing.

In south-east Asia one could add a civ as you suggest. The reason I left it empty was that I wanted to discourage India and China from expanding to the north. While this was a valid point in the earlier scenarios, however, in 1500 AD it may not be. But let's first see what everyone does as things are now, and then perhaps we can add another civ!

Alright I'm starting a game on
Regent
High Agresssion
Japan

I begin to rapidly kill the barbarians using the crossbows and catapults to weakn them before attacking.

Japan.JPG

Turn 2

Korea and England are more technologically advanced than us. I decide to revolt to a Monarchy since I don't like feudilisim much.
The barbarians pillage our roads cutting our source of iron... they will all be destroyed next turn.

Turn 3

I switch to Monarchy. Also I find that no matter what I can't research gunpowder any faster than 40 turns!!! Also I am backward compared to the Europeans. Realastic....
Contact with China, Mongols
The barbarians are destroyed and Japan is safe

Turn 4
I begin to transfer forces from Japan to Sakhalin. My first priorities are to start building up my cities than immediatley start settiling empty territory.

Turn 5
I found Kyoto in Manchuria

Kyoto.JPG

Turn 12
Koreans found Seoul near modern day Valdovoistok
I need to start expanding soon.....

Turn 14
I begin to have most of my cities start pumping out settlers. I will concentrate on Manchuria first then I will settle the souther Pacific

Turn 21

Many settlers are being landed in Manchuria as well as defensive units
Nansha is founded

Turn 24
Edo founded

I now have a decent foothold in mainland Asia

Turn 27
Forsoma founded
Kurile founded

The Chinese are already settiling Phillipnes

Persians have settled Singapore(Malay peninsula)
One of the reasons I feel there should be as civ in South East Asia since people other than India and China colonize it. Persia has no where else to expand so it sends settlers across India and settles in South-East Asia

Turn 29
Poles build Statue of Zeus
Shenyang founded

Turn 30
I am incrediblly backward. I buy Astronmy at an astronomical price from Lincolon

This is Japan at this point. I really must do something to cacth us up in tech.

Japan1.JPG

BTW I look the Snoopy terrain graphics looks good.

Very interesting! To begin with I will disable settlers for the Persians. But a new civ in SE Asia sounds like a very good idea. I can lower the maximum number of turns for getting a tech, but I would like to see how quickly the AI develops the technologies first. A somewhat slower progress doesn't have to be a bad thing overall, but the time line has to be adjusted. It would be nice if you managed to keep track of when different techs are acquired by your neighbors.

Do you know how the others are doing? Any world ranking? :)
