C3C Scenario/Mod: Rising Sun

I'm still around and my screens are'nt uploading. I want to upload them before my ascess is gone. You probaly won't be hering from me starting tommrow.

Some have been uploaded I'm working on the rest. I did'nt edit them and put my comments and stuff on them though. No time.

Ahh finally they're all uploaded. That took a while did'nt it. Now seeing as I may not be able to speak to you for a week or so I want say that your'e scenario is really fun and really good! :goodjob: You may want to consider making tundra unsettleable and having hills or forests in Siberia so that it's not totally empty.

Thank you! When the new patch becomes available I will release version 2.5, for which I can make a variant where tundra is unsettlable so that it can be tested in play.

On the other hand, I originally had a plan to release several scenarios based on The Rising Sun mod covering shorter periods of time. By using a tested mod that includes all the extra Conquests stuff as a base, one would quickly be able to develop rather advanced scenarios without spending a lot of time on configuration and debugging. Using the Rising Sun art files, the scenario could also be very small in size. While I am rather busy at the moment, you (or anyone else) is welcome to go ahead with this idea.

Finally, I attach a fragment of the screen from your game showing the victorious Japanese marching from northern Korea into China.

Due to the delays with the patch, I have released version 2.41. It contains most of the updates planned for version 2.5, and has a .biq file with unsettlable tundra. It would be interesting to know what impact this has on the game.

Hey Pawel, I'd like to try out the new version once the 'official' Patch is out (whenever that may be). But I don't want to play as Japan anymore. Is there another Civ, you'd like to see tested???

Sounds great! I think the three most interesting civilizations to play would be England, Scandinavia, or Byzantium.

England is somewhat easier to play than Japan, but should be interesting at Emperor level. It has a very flexible starting position, and probably offers most strategies for creating a global empire. It also has some interesting units spread out along the time line.

Scandinavia is much harder to play, but with their Longships commanding the north Atlantic, they have many options before them. As for the historic Vikings, both the eastern and western routes are open.

Byzantium has a very central location, and as you saw in your first game, quite a potential if the initial qualitative advantage on land and at sea can be put to good use. Still, with so many powerful neighbours it also offers one the greatest diplomatic challenges.

I think I'll choose the Byzaahs!

I might play Monarch level though, since I'll be a lamb amongst the wolves.

Patch will be out this week! :)

I think it would be nice to see a game through as Japan, but if you want to start over with the new version it would be nice too. If you use the unsettlable tundra the game will probably be more intensive since once there is nothing more to colonize only one option remains... :D

I have also set the 'build defensive units often' flag for both China and Korea so that they will be a little tougher match. :)
The other changes affect mainly the game from the late medieval period and on, so except that China and Korea now can build Warrior Monks and Mysticism allows sacrifices, you may not notice most of them.

Since version 2.41 I have also added some flavor for the Byzantines, for instance giving all legions appropriate names...

Finally, the long awaited patch and version 2.5 of the scenario are now out!

There seems to be one minor bug in the patch, but it does not affect gameplay. In order to get the new Industrial Age background screen I have to load the scenario twice. The first time the old background loads, but if one selects 'New Game' and loads again, then one gets the proper background. Saved games seem to work correctly. Since the load times for this scenario are very short, it is probably worth it.

I expect a new patch very soon!

Anyway, nothing significant happened in the B.C.’s. Although, right from the beginning I’m eyeing the Germans and the city of Vienna. I know how strong they can get from the other game and I begin to build up my military from the beginning. I will NOT allow a strong Germany at my border.

85 AD – Established Adrianople on the Crimean Peninsula. Having Immortals so close by is worrying.

160 – I’m able to collect 6 Legionaries for a little adventure in Vienna. :)

175 – 3 Legionaries fall to 2 German Spearmen, but Vienna falls! I give 3 techs to the Romans, so that I won’t have to go up against German Swordsmen alone.

250 – I sign a peace treaty with Germany. I’m able to get the cities of Copenhagen and Leipzig + 2 Workers. :D Leipzig is way out east though, in the Garagum Desert bordering the Chinese. I think the Germans are finished from this game. :)

NOTE: At this point, the strongest civ appears to be the Russians.

490 – Caesarea established in what is either Crete, or Cyprus.

500 – Germany and Rome sign peace treaty. Russia demands Gold, I give in, no war till Republic. :(

530 – While traveling through Africa with a Spearman, I notice the Egyptians are at war with the Arabs.

620 – Revolution, time to switch to Republic.

670 – Finally, a Republic

NOTE: More civs are demanding stuff, this time I tell them no and they all back down.

860 – England demands Republic. I’ve refused to give in to so many different civs, stronger than the English. This time however, they do declare war.

890 – What I thought would be an uneventful war with the English, gets a little interesting when the Romans join in and declares war on ME! But I have Knights now and as you can see I’ll get the Knights Templar soon. :D

910 – Attack on Aguileia proves disastrous. I decide a take a defensive roll and just protect the border, while I pillage all around.

920 – The Romans are pretty tough, so I bring in the Russians, who then bring in the Chinese, who then bring in the Mongols. It’s a DOGPILE on Rome. :D They deserve it.

940 – I had forgotten all about the English, until a Swordsman landed in the island of Cesarea. There is nothing I can do and the city eventually falls to the English. I begin building my Dromons!

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads7/rs03.jpg

960 – Romans want peace and I agree, also taking a 1-tile island city of the west coast of Africa. :D

990 – Caesaria is recaptured!!!

1000 – Volcano erupts near Trebizend, it’s kind of close.
So far there are 3.024.000 Byzaahs, 2nd in the world. But we are only 15th in land, I’m going to have to do something about that.

Any questions, or comments???

Looks like you made quick progress with the Byzantines! I think they are great for a conqest game! The army in Rome looks cool, though!

In the meantime I have gone beyond just making the tundra unsettlable. Instead, to make that version more enjoyable, I have re-optimized the conditions, and changed the start date:

600 AD
After the fall of Western Rome, the dark ages have come with a technological decline, but China is again united under the Sui dynasty, and the Byzantines now control Italy.
* The Visigoths rule Spain. Will they eventually rule South America as well and make a bid for supremacy in the new world?
* The Arabs are no longer insignificant. Can they grow to to conquer large parts of Africa and Asia?
* The Mongols now have the strongest starting army. Will the Chinese and Russians resist a Mongol invasion?

Download the 600 AD version to find out!

EDIT: The attachment has been removed since it is now included in the main file in the first post of the scenario, which is not significantly larger.

I'll play test the new version. But it''ll be a while, because I'm still going to finish this current one, because it may be my first ever win at Monarch. :D
