C3C won't open

Hi! I installed my C3C (the editor worked fine)and did the copying art around, and I added patches:
Civ3Conquests v1.22, C3PTW v1.27, C3C Edition, and C3v1.29. But, when I tried to open the game, I get this error:Civ3Conquests This program has performed on illegal operation and will be shut down. And that's it. Maybe I shouldn't have installed all three of those patches? Thanks.

Can anybody help me? I'm running Win98SE, have plenty of RAM and disk space...750 mhz

If by C3C you mean Civ3 COmplete, then no, you didn't need to install the patches. They *shouldn't* have hurt anything, but you might want to try a complete uninstall, followed by a complete install.

Patching Civ3:Complete with the original game patches will cause the "Please insert the CD" errors, as the patches were not intended for Complete. And Complete uses different copy protection than the stand alone versions, so even though the disc is in the drive the program won't recognize it.

My problem is not the patches, but the fact that I can't open the game because I get "Civ3Conquests This program has performed on illegal operation and will be shut down."
