I don't have a camera, but it looks almost the same like this;

It is attached to the wall in my room (I live in an apartment now). We've had the regular modem out in the living room where a roomate's computer is set up, but the one in the wall has stickers on the cables that say "SHAW - DO NOT UNPLUG". I know it needs to be plugged in so that the rest of the cable plugs and the phone (kind of important, as that's how people can page us from outside) can work.

If it is unplugged then the phone doesn't work, but I can plug the regular modem in and then have internet on my computer. I can't figure out how to use that wall thing to get my comptuer (which is right next to it) hooked up with the internet. Any ideas? (ANd I do have a couple of cable-splitters, just one I can't get a short cord off of it that is knid of in the way of using it). ESIT: I don't think i need to say this but, wireless is NOT an solution.

EDIT: I know what it is now, I just need to figure out if I can somehow use it to connect to the internet.

Could it be a router? Or another modem?

Is there any text on it other than the stickers? I see some in the picture but I can't see what it says

I know what it is. I can't change the thread title again though :mad:

Oops, sorry.

Its an ARRIS Touchstone TM6xx series telephony modem. Cant tell from your picture which one is it specifically, but its likely the TM602A
Its used for cable internet and VoIP telephone.

You dont need to go wireless, just get a semi-decent router that has ethernet support.

The picture is one I got off google that looks mostly the same except the line of lights is further down.

I've tried plugging my router into the ARRIS, but it still did not maange to connect to the internet (Limited or no connectivity, and yeah there's nothing going on.). A room mate tried the same thing a couple of weeks ago before I moved in and he couldn't get it to work (which is why his comp is now in the living room). All the lights that should be on on the router are on though.

I tried putting a splitter in the cable line and hooking up a modem I had left over from the last time I had cable a few years ago but my computer just kept saying the network cable was unplugged, so I gave up on that.

I'm getting desperate for internet in my room.
