Everything works fine...except...insted of seeing leader faces on diplomacy screen, i get a cool loking black screen...well its not so much as cool as it is annoying. Anyone have a quick fix?

nope.

Judging whats happened in here the past few days I would guess you are under spec to run the game.

Anyways post a dxdiag file please.

I dont think so, but here is the info anyways
Any opinions is appreciated.

The whole file please.

instructions:

Press the windows 'start' button, and select 'run'.
In the box that appears, type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) and hit the enter key.
Follow the on-screen instructions, until you get the main DirectX Diagnostic program.
Hit the "save all information" button (as shown in the graphic below). You will be prompted for a file name and can save the information as a text file.
Either upload the text file as an attachment to you post, or open it and copy and paste the data into your post.

Two things.

Your page file is over 300 mb

and you have two sets of sound drivers?

Did the motherboard come with onboard sound?

Anyways, if it did, go into bios and make sure it is disabled.

Turn off all that stuff running in the background by going into msconfig.
disable all startup programs and in services disable all NON ms services apply and reboot.

I too am having the exact same problem, but I am sure that my specs are not under the neccesary or even recommended. I also get lagging on the opening movie.

heres my dxdiag:

Another rig which exceeds the spec easily. Something very strange is going on. This is worrrying for anyone thinking of buying a new comp to run Civ4. There's no point as long as these kind of machines are having problems. There must be a way to fix them.

Botol you have an on board graphics chip that is not supported by civ iv.

Your video ram is not video ram at all it is system ram giving you less that 512 mb which is the requirement for the game when running winxp

Not enough graphics on your laptop.

You have an intel I G P. Onboard graphics chip.

CIV IV does not support it.
