Well... after playing 80 hours of CIV I feel that I want the JonShafer's head on a platter. But this is not possible, so I ask if you can recommend me another game to remove the stresss, more like Civ 4 and less like Worms.

Sorry about my english, okthanksbye...

Galactic civilizations 2 ultimate edition. Fun game, has a nice feel to it. Not exploit free. But I am sure you will digg it more than civ 5.

Victoria 2 or Europa Universalis 3.

Both great and perfect examples of how you can make a game easier to understand (compared to Victoria 1 or EU 1 and 2) without dumbing it down.

A grand campaign as Prussia in Vic2 is about as good as it gets for me in a videogame.
:)

Try Europa Universalis 3. Similarities with Civ: historical flavour, tech tree, improvements, and (much better) diplomacy. Dissimilarities: only covers the period from 1400 to early 1800, province-based map, pausable real-time, and more realism overall.

I would also recommend EU3, but with the add ons, especially heir to the throne.

Vic2 is set from 1836 until 1920, I believe, so makes for a very different game (imperialism, industrialization) while EU3 focuses more on religion, discovery and trade.

I'd echo EU and GalCiv2 --- though, I think GalCiv2, in a lot of ways, reminds me of V (a better V).

You don't mention if you've tried any mods --- but if you haven't, you really ought to give Rise of Mankind, A New Dawn, and Fall From Heaven a shot. They're rich enough to be Civ IV expansions in their own right.

I've gone back to the last release of A New Dawn after getting bored with V.

Civ V is now gone from my Computer (steam included). I'm thinking about playing these mods too. Victoria 2 v1.2 is fun. What do you guys think about Call to Power 2 with Ages of Man IV mod (don't care about graphics)? How is it stands compared to A New Dawn?

I typically *despise* Paradox strategy games with a passion, but I actually warmed up to EU3 after giving it a chance. It's a pretty nice little game.

If you want to go *way* off the beaten path I recommend Crawl Stone Soup and Dominions 3.

Thanks guys, I really need some sort off healing,

After playing the Civ series for many years and the Civ-Call to power series too and recalling the thrill and excitement even of just the announcements of newly researched tech (for the who knows how many times) to receive the supposed to be the Crown Jewel of Civ... well, I received some poor reminder of the hexagon war games I've used to play in the 90's which were known as Board games for PC and that's not the worse of it.

So thanks for some recommendations, any more recommendations from the maker of the above mentioned games will be welcomed.

I don't know how much of the pain and disappointment will go away, but the yawn will surely disappear(hopefully).

Thanks

If I can piggyback without hijacking, is there anything similar in the Fantasy genre (aside from HOMM)?

I hear Age of Wonders 3 is magnificent, although I have never played it myself.

I am also quite fond of Elemental, which has undergone its bumps and bruised since release, but Stardock is bound and determined to make it as epic as its vision.

Try chess or checkers.

Checkers has a very low learning curve. Chess has much more depth though.

Age of wonders 3 is like a mix of civ and homm and it's truly great. The graphics are outdated ofcourse but if you don't care about that it's awesome.

It's pretty old by this point and really only offers a campaign (but it's a fairly long campaign) -- but I still play the old Age of Wonder II titles (Wizards Throne and Shadow Magic) on occasion. I know that both Stardock and GamersGate offer them for download as of a month ago...

I prefer the Civ side of 4x over fantasy -- but AoW is a very fine game.
