Can you recomend me some game like CIV?

I hear Age of Wonders 3 is magnificent, although I have never played it myself.

I am also quite fond of Elemental, which has undergone its bumps and bruised since release, but Stardock is bound and determined to make it as epic as its vision.

Whoah - hold the phone.... There's a AoW III!?!?

I suddenly find myself wondering what excuse I can come up with to skip out on a half day of work... Anyone played it? How is it?

They are talking about AoW - Shadow Magic

Try chess or checkers.

Checkers has a very low learning curve. Chess has much more depth though.

I like the expansion pack for chess, called shogi. Follows the classic Soren formula for expansion: 33% old: you still try for checkmate, 33% improved: rooks, knights and bishops can promote, not just pawns, 33% new: larger board, more pieces, and captured pieces re-enter the game on your side!

Another vote for EU3 and/or Victoria 2. Also, Medieval 2: Total War and Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI.

EU3 would be a solid choice .... I like it quite a bit better than Vicky2 which still needs a bit more patch love IMO.

Space Genre

Gal Civ 2 with the expansions

I also found a recent offering from Matrix to quite engaging and unique ... Distant Worlds

Sword of Stars with expansions is still my fav, but its more about tech, ship building, and combat. Economics and Diplomacy is simplified.

Fantasy

I think Elemental: War of Magic will eventually be really good. Needs the upcoming major patch.

I like Dominions 3. Older game...simple graphics but very deep strategy with tons of options.

Sorry for interrupting your thread. Just want to know, is it really that bad? I know Civ 5 is already "bad" for me since I can't even play the game due to steam and frequent crash and some bad remarks from the forum. So, the gameplay and the game in overall is bad too, huh... so sad...

Currently downloading Victoria 2 demo... will try EU3 later....

I agree with everyone else. V2 and EU3 would be your best options. Elemental will get better with time so that may be worth checking out.

what's your overall opinion of Distant Worlds bro? My oldest just recently picked it up, and it looked interesting. Thought i'd do some research 1st before I did.

Well, it's not like civ at all (and is closer to Worms), but lately I've been hooked on Minecraft.

SotS is a truly awesome game. You really do have to try it at least once. It's not to everyone's taste, but people that like it *really* like it.

If you play Dominions 3, btw, make sure to use the Conceptual Balance mod. It is practically standard equipment for anyone that plays Dom3 for any length of time.

I know they're usually considered underpowered but I love me some Mictlan:w00t:

I've actually never tried Shogi, but that makes it sound kinda interesting.

Is Europa Universalis turn-based or real time?

My choices are pretty old school, but Panzer/Allied General, any of the "Theme" games (Theme Park, Roller Coaster, Hospital)....

My favourite game of all time was Aerobiz on the Super Nintendo. I wonder if we can convince them to make an update of that one....
