Can I Kick It?
I haven't seen this topic in a few days, but now that I've taken a second look at it I am completely blown away that people think that the Northern Alliance can actually run this country. I'm going to put one hundred dollars down right now and say that Northern Alliance will be just as awful as the Taliban were. All we've done in Afganistan is taken down one militant government from one tribe (Pashtun?) and replaced with another one from another tribe. In two years the NA will start something up with one of their rivals and BANG! We're back to square one.
In 1985 we supplied Saddam Hussein and the Iraqis with weapons, money, eqiupment to support their war against Iran because we saw the Ayatollah as the greatest threat in the region. It turned out that Iraq was just as bad, particularly whne they started using nerve agaents against both the Iranians and the Khurds. Six years later, we had to put them down.
And now, all we're doing is supporting a dangerous fringe group because we see the Taliban as the worst of the worst. I've got news for y'all: In less then ten years, we're going to be fighting the Northern Alliance.
