Canada's military ceasing to exist

Troop maneuvers and artillery barrages are all over rover? Somebody better tell all the military forces in the world, including the blokes in Iraq who have done both in the last few weeks, and on a far higher scale earlier this year.

Fish and Oil (and possibly fish oil) are the reasons Canada needs some kind of credible defense. Everyone from the US to Spain is encroaching on Canadian fishing grounds, having totally overfished our own (self-regulated industry my a**). And the Exxon administration is realizing neither Syria nor North Korea have appreciable oil reserves, so start sharpening the blades on those hockey skates!

What's it cost per month to lease a Leopard tank? I've been thinking about getting a new ride. What happens if it gets blown up before the lease is up? Do you just quit paying or do you owe the balance? Any mileage restrictions? Funny I haven't seen any advertisements at the local BMW dealer.

shhhhh

Dont give the Yanks a pre text to invade. :p

You don't need ultra high-tech military apparatus for policeing duty. And the time of operations involving troop maneouvers and artilery barrages has set.

Edit: But after "Due South" I would have though an RCMP would be able to take out the Abrams tank ;)

No, but you DO need boats. Virtually our entire fleet is serving far away from Canadian home waters, and attrition among soldiers means we cannot even man all of our vessels adequately.

Actually, they already have drawn up plans for an invasion of Canada. . Canada should make efforts to build up her military to deter any "foreign aggressors."

This is not surprising, as it is wise for any military to plan for anything they can think of. You made it sound like America was planning to attack Canada, when in fact all countries have these kind of hypothetical war documents lying around.

Dramatic effect... I was being sarcastic.

And we never spike the water we will be sending south in the future.

I can see why Canada(and many other countries) would pare back its military to the maximum it can. They have no worry of real military confrontation with anyone. The money can be better spent elsewhere. If some nation made the insane choice to attack Canada there is little doubt that the US and most of the rest of the west would come to their defence. As long as you have a bodyguard you needn't carry a gun yourself.

We probably wouldn't need you even, unless it was a missile attack, due to the fact that no one except America could manage the supply train (perhaps Russia too)

But the point is more to due with legitimizing ourselves.

Canada has done an admirable job "legitimizing" itself with a small force.
If it is a missile attack we are both F-ed! Unless GWB has his way!

Yes, it would be interesting to seal our great continent off from attack:rocket2:

But first Canada has to work on garrisonning our country:sniper:
