Right now the only way to build a "canal" in the game is to place a Settlement on an isthmus. This allows naval vessels to traverse from one body of water to another, which is particularly important in the case of lakes/landlocked oceans, or if the enemy controls the "straits" at the tip of a continent near the arctic/antarctic regions. This can become particularly annoying due to the settlement cap, and having to use a settlement for this purpose. In some cases, I find myself capturing and razing an enemy settlement in war, just so that I can construct my own settlement on the isthmus.
It would be great if any of the following where possible:
- create a "canal town" focus starting in the exploration age, that perhaps would allow a settlement to not count against the settlement cap, in exchange for other penaltires.
- Allow for a "Suez Canal/Panama Canal" constructible - perhaps even purchasable in towns.
- Allow Settlers to build "Suez Canal/Panama Canal" without founding a Town.
