Cannot install any patch

I've been trying to install 3.19 for a while now, and once I press the 'install' button on the setup menu, it all just closes. So I tried installing older patches, and it says the following: "The setup has detected that no version of CIVIV - BTS is installed. The update requires that a previous version of the application be installed".

So I tried downloading 3.17, 3.13, and 3.03, and I got precisely the same answer.

Any advice?

What version of BTS is this? Is it a downloaded version or is it from discs? If from discs did you buy them as seperate games or as a Complete version of some kind?

Also what OS are you using?

Using XP, downloaded version of civIV complete with warlords and BTS. No patches installed yet..

You need to get patches from the place you downloaded it, patches for the disc game either using check for updates or downloading will not work as you have found.

Some of the versions of complete for sale as downloads now are already fully patched. Check in Advanced>About this Build. 3.19 will say Civ Version: 319, Save Version 302, Build Version 3.1.9.0. If not you will have to go back to your download vendor for the patch.

Well, in the downloaded file, patch 3.13 exists. What does this mean. Do I have to install it first before anything else?

I do not have a downloaded version and from what I can make out they differ between vendors so I would go by the instructions you were given for your installation. In theory 3.19 does not require any previous patches to be installed first. In practice I would ask the vendor when you go back to them for the 3.19 patch.

I am having the same problem. Just downloaded the 3.19 patch for BTS from this site but it won't install, the installer says it's gonna do it then shuts down. Very annoying :/ My Civ IV is a disk version but I downloaded BTS from Steam, which doesn't seem to provide patches. Downloading the patch from the Firaxis site now to see if it works but I don't see why it would be any different.

edit: Right finally got it to work once I remembered that I downloaded BTS from Direct2Drive not Steam.

Yoadm if you still haven't got it to work, you need to go back to whichever site you downloaded BTS from.
