Cannot play BtS

I load the game and head to single player to set up a game
In any scenario or Play Now! the game exits before getting to the loading screen
except in some cases such as Rhyes and fall and RtW
I have BtS patched to 3.13 and i havent tried playing with it clean

any help would be appreciated

problem found:
whenever i install BtS patch 3.13 this happens
i can only play on 3.03

So, wait, what was the solution to this problem?

I've just patched my previously-fine BtS to v3.13 and whenever I start a game I encounter an error.

When I click advanced->about this build I see:

Civ Version: 313
Save Version: 301
Build Version: 3.0.0.91 (74697)

Could it be because the values aren't the same? Why would this be..?

the patch installed incompletely - we do have a lot of reports here. all my assumptions on what causes this have been proven wrong - so I would appreciate it if you would post as much as possible about your install (what version, retail download etc, did you patch to 3.02 or 3.03 before, did you use a custom install path, do you have warlords etc.). I know that atleast some people with this problem use cracked versions which makes it even trickier to track down the culprit for those using legit versions.
You will need to uninstall BtS, delete everything it leaves behind in my games\Beyond the sword and then reinstall and patch directly to 3.13 - this solved the problem for most people.
