Cannot Reinstall - "data3.cab"?

To Whom it may concern,

Does anybody know how to fix the following problem? -

I uninstalled Civ III because I wanted to fully install it (so you don't need to keep putting in the CD). The reinstall program uninstalled Civ III, but cannot install it back. It keeps asking me to locate "data3.cab". I don't see in anywhere so I made a dummy file, then it asked for data4.cab, then data5.cab after that. What the heck is wrong?

Has anybody here had that problem before?

Thanks,

Big J Jeff

Cab files (cabinet files) are usually windows files, There are no Cab files on PTW.

It sounds like you may have missing windows files not civ files

Good luck

I got this problem, I wiped the CD down and it went away. The installation program is automatically looking for all the *.cab files. When it encounters an error (as in a physical obstruction on the disc looking for data3.cab, it moves on to look for data4.cab, etc.

I think you have a damaged CD. I had the same problem and the same error message for a year ago. I had to replace the damaged CD with a new one. After that the problem was gone.
Cab3 is addressed to a compressed file on the civ3 CD, and I am sure it is not a windows message error.

Thanks. You guys really know your stuff. I think this webpage should open its own tech support. Maybe give a small fee to the person who solves some dude's civ problem. It would be cheaper than calling infogrames long distance.
