Dear forum,

is it just me or is it impossible to liberate a city state? rome captured my city state when he declared war on me when i asked far peace when i kicked his ass he returned it but i only had the option to keep it or raze it. Am i missing something ?

If what I've heard from people playing is true (I don't have the game), I don't think there is a way of liberating cities

Correct, liberation is currently not a feature. However with the new patch, city states will downgrade to friendly IPs at the age transition, so at least that's something.

Benjamin Franklin went to war with me. What an arse that leader is lol. He took one of my towns. But a few turns later I took it back. I had the option to keep or raze it. I kept it and it became my town again.

Razzing must really be the last option, because the penalty is really steep. War support is expensive and powerfull, and giving free war support toward ALL future wars, whatever the target, can be deadly...

I disagree as razing cities grants the player with +1000 personal happiness. There is just something so lovely watching “Revolutionary Napoleon” of the Mongolian Empire’s cities go up in flames.

Thats a problem. you spend a lot of influence points to it. Why can't you liberate it? Hope they fix it. Should also give you some progress military milestone

I really miss being able to liberate cities to city states or your allies. Why can’t I give my good friend Machiavelli his city back? I’m already one over my settlement limit and he’s struggling on the frontline.

This is probably one of the features I miss the most from civ 6.

Hopefully it comes back. Right now each age the city state setup becomes more or less permanent in the beginning which is quite boring

1) once you are suzerian you remain suzerian
2) ai at least on diety tend to eliminate city states very early

It's a problem especially for civilizations, like Siam or the Shawnee, that depend on their city state relationships. Once they are destroyed, the suzerain is pretty neutered. Without the ability to bring back your city states from the dead, you're pretty much toast.
