after the Gods & Kings expansion, i reunpacked the graphics and overwrote the roads and rails with my custom graphic but it did not show up in game......i then did the same with a swordsman and that did not show up in game either.....is the game loading the files differently, or do i have to change some setting???

Edit: SOLVED!!

put the loose dds files in "\Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization v\Assets"

try to change "LooseFilesOverridePAK = 0" to "LooseFilesOverridePAK = 1" in config ini

IIRC this was not needed in civ5 pre-patch & extension, maybe they've changed that.

I thought that would do it but no :( didn't work. I even resaved the dds's so they would be nice and new but didn't work ....

just an update on that, I use a modified civ5artdefines_viseffects.xml file for R.E.D., and noted that it is not loaded anymore since the pre-G&K patch.

Seems they've removed the resource path for loose file scanning, because putting it in the assets directory instead of resource have worked for me, maybe you can try that for your files too.

sorry gedemon, i am an "xml moron"......exactly where do i put the dds files? or would it be easy to make a "mod"?

no need for xml editing if you just want to override some dds files.

what I was suggesting is to put them in "\Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization v\Assets" and no more in "\Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization v\resource\DX9"

I don't know if it will work for graphic files, I just know it's working for an XML file I used to place in resource and which wasn't loaded anymore there since the .674 patch

Else a simple mod with the file you want to override and VFS property set to true for it should do.
