Can't Reinstall

Am having the same problem, but with BtS. Disc content shows "Play" (but I can't, because it's uninstalled); can't reinstall, as I get the message it's already installed...

This file:

Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989}" (BtS)

isn't listed in the hidden files, so I can't remove it.

The My Games\BtS folder has been removed.

When uninstalling I did exclude Mods installed and Transferred Maps (which include most of my selfcreated files for BtS and many other I downloaded).

- Just BtS (I have Civ4 installed and Warlords currently uninstalled)
- Disc version
- Not really.

And I double-checked, but can't find any remaining BtS files (mods and tranferred maps are gone as well).

when you try to reinstall what happens?
usually if you get rid of the installshield installation information folder that should also ensure that the respective registry keys become disfunctional and the installer allows you to reinstall - however in some cases it becomes necessary to remove those manually.

I get a message saying BtS 3.19 is already installed and needs to be uninstalled first - install exits.

Just remove the whole folder? (Because the file mentioned isn't among the ones listed on my PC.)

You mean this post:

You are not risking anything if you are careful and do not alter anything else than instructed.

I just tested this on my computer. I have civ installed. When I run the setup.exe on my DVD, it asks me if I want to remove Civ. After performing this few steps, running setup.exe asks me to select a language for the installation procedure...

1. Start -> Run -> regedit

2. go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall.
Note: Apolyton forum says to go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall. The correct path probably depends on the options that you selected when first installing civ4 (whether to install for all users or for one user only). Try both.

3. Select {CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}

4. Right click it, Export, enter a filename, such as civ4.reg. This is for backup.

5. Right click it, Delete, Yes.

6. Try running the setup.exe on your Civ4 CD/DVD. You should be able to re-install now. Yeehee. If so, continue with step 8.

7. If not, you can bring the registry to the original state by double clicking the civ4.reg backup file that you created in step #4. Bummer.

8. Report here how it worked.

The bolded bit doesn't correspond with what I've got in AppData; so, should I just delete the folder/its contents altogether?

Yes. That's what I had to do recently. Installshield is a mess. :(

You can also rename it to something innocuous.

Right... I got BtS reinstalled and all patched up, but now I'm getting a python error when loading ("Failed Initializing Python") and the game exits. Any suggestion on how to proceed?

A few questions for my wonderful, map making, Dutch friend: :)

- What OS is this?
- Are you just running vanilla BTS, or using a mod?

Normally, the game will throw a python error if it can't find a file it needs. When I first installed BTS on Win 7, I wound up with python errors. Something in the installation didn't copy over just right, but the install had messed up my pathing and was looking for files on my floppy drive. (I still can't figure that one out...) It may have happened to you, as I've heard of others having similar problems, no matter what OS is used.

You can edit the Civ4.ini file and enable logging for things like python. Then just look in the logs folder for the error logs. It should tell you the file that is not being loaded, or the one that is failing because of corruption. I learned that trick while fixing a BUG mod problem. EF was a font of information. :)

Some answers:
- using Vista (don't think that's it, as I had Vista with the original install)
- error occurs during BtS start up.

Ah, yes. I knew that, but wasn't sure if that might work (or that I'd need to reinstall again).

I appreciate the offer, but it seems I missed some copy errors while installing... so I'll need to reinstall first anyway.:(

EDIT: Same problem, can't uninstall (running setup gives the message I need to uninstall - which is what I was trying to do...) BTW, what program is regedit? I can't seem to locate that; do I need to download it first?

regedit is a program that is always installed on windows machines - you can start it either by clicking on start then on run then typing regedit (win xp) or on the windows button then on search then typing regedit (vista).
I'd be extremely careful using it without knowing it though. And always, always set a system restore point first.

ori, I've reinstalled BtS (again) and am getting the "Failed intializing python" message again. So I've enabled logging and am attaching the Logs zipfile below. (BTW, I found in an old thread that this could be Warlords-related; I do have Warlords, but it's uninstalled as the disc can't be read anymore.) Anyway, here's the file:
