Can't stay centered

An annoyance I noticed is that there is no apparant equivalent to the "V" command in Civ 2. If I active several units in a city to upgrade them (say there are 5), as soon as they are activated the game "rack focuses" to some far corner of the world.

Then when I return to the city and click to upgrade one unit, I return to the same corner of the globe. Go back to the city up grade another, bam! back to the corner. Another unit, corner. And so on...

There must be some basic command I am missing?

I dont recall the V command in Civ II, then again, been 2 years since i played it...
About upgrading units in a hurry;
SHIFT+U upgrades all units in cities that have both barracks and required strategic resources available.
